Whatās your favourite bit of imagery to associate with your OCs?
Hi Adam! This is honestly a great question that let me sit down and think! I ramble quite a bit here, but I hope it gives you a definite answer.
Whenever it comes to imagery, I'm quite a fan of 80s-90s aesthetics of old stuff and horror is a big influence (also shades of grays!! Love those!!) I'm a fan of things constantly repeating and it's just looping and over (think House of Leaves, a photocopy that keeps getting photocopied and The Backrooms) to symbolize a mental spiral. Also a spiked heartbeat!
I also love things splitting in two. It's why I love (and helped created lol) Willtosis! It's also why I made twin ocs! It gives me a chance to draw some spooky stuff with them. Like photocopying, analaog horror alternates, cells, or even tree branches.
I draw Matthew a lot with a spiked heartbeat whenever he's around Raymond! It symbolizes his strong feelings to him, but also, well, the slight anxiety he gets. šš
I also love old technology, dark sceneries (i.e. streets or lakes) also traditional mediums. Polaroids, cameras, missing posters, and burning stuff is my favorite. I try to incorporate flowers but the passion isn't quite as strong! Oh also wild animals, I love the symbolism of deer and bears and wolves and so on!! (Nature is my favorite symbolism.)
As a fun fact about this question, I actually started this mini series a week or two ago where I put things I symbolism with my ocs in an art piece. Here is such!! I plan to make one for Raymond, Grace and Diana soon!
If anyone wants to analyze these, let me know your thoughts! I'm quite proud of these; I love how I draw Malcolm as well haha.
I'm also inspired by other media. As a fun fact, the idea for Matt going missing came from this frame. The Backrooms was a huge driving point in how I interpret Matthew's mindā how can you explain something to someone about something you haven't even seen? But you felt and experienced over and over?
The expression of the Malcolm artwork was inspired by Pirate Clark!! Both from The Backrooms.
Horror is also a huge driving point in my imagery. I like to mingle that with a LOT! I hope these answer your question! Basically horror, old media, nature and dark shades of gray.
