I was unironically telling one of my best friends a week or so ago that more people need to like the idea of being hippie instead of mislabeling themselves as punk. Radical kindness is a hippie thing, not a punk one! Plus, if the hope is to be subversive and push against conservatism, as someone else said, your average conservative will be probably more offended by a hippie than a punk

"Listen when people tell you what they care about and find ways to connect the current topic to it" is one of the most universal and human-oriented pieces of social advice you can learn. It communicates that you genuinely listen, it communicates that you actively think about the other person even when you're talking about something else, it communcates that you value their distinct perspective and experience, it helps them understand what you're trying to communicate, and it helps them understand *why* you're trying to communicate it.

Not only is this invasive as fuck, it also serves to discourage/exclude student athletes who are too poor to see a doctor regularly (or have unstable home lives). Who are some of the kids who need sports most.

Someone will say "as a queer person in the heart of empire, my life is in danger every day" and you'll find out they're a developer for Amazon and live in San Francisco or Seattle or some shit, and then you'll meet a trans girl from Alva, OK who's like "Yeah, things are pretty good. AutoZone moved me to full-time."

Someone in a queer group in my current blue city said that they didn't like expressions of solidarity because it "diluted their oppression".
