The Escape Artist

We all know the famous 'Skinny Love' originally by Bon Iver beautifully covered by this talented young lady Birdy who is mostly known for this pure, young version of which in some respect individuals still prefer the original. But I must say her talent does not stop there but rather expands.

I absolutely adore the her second studio album, Fire Within. I feel as a whole it has a personal romantic touch to it that makes it ever so special. You definitely get a feel of her pure texture as well as hearing the full range of her voice. 

Amongst many favourites on her album, 'All you never say', 'Shine' and 'Older' (being a personal favourite - deluxe edition) stand out most to me.

The writing of these songs and others definitely speak for themselves especially in a form of which you can relate to.

Being an indie musician, Fire Within without a doubt conforms to this genre, although, in my personal opinion, not typically. I positively say that this album stands out from the crowd and if not in her writing alone then her voice inclusive.  

 I first heard this in late October/ early November 2013. I remember wanting to listen to something meaningful, touching, soothing and engaging all at once. Yes, I think I was in one of those moods and I came across a wonderful EP called Skybound by a very talented young man, Lewis Mokler. 

"The Traveller" is what first caught my attention, beginning with a calming acoustic sound which continues throughout the song. For me, it was the simplicity of the notes and lyrics that came together to tell a beautiful story that captured me. 

It often reminds me of those scenes in films where a character is travelling on a train. A suitable song for reminiscing, thinking and relaxing.

Lewis Mokler tends to cover folk and acoustic music which I think is great if you are fond of those genres, having said that, I feel his music speaks to the masses rather than a genre specific people.

Aside from "The Traveller", I especially loved "Skybound". It is definitely the most romantic of the six songs on his EP, although, I must say I do love all the songs and have it on as a playlist.
