Donât Be So Desperate!
During the holidays many of us attempt to make the most of our down time - if we have any after family visits and shopping- to recharge mentally, reignite our passions, and take inventory of our accomplishments, even failures from the year. Going into something new - specifically a New Year - allows us to refocus our sights on whatâs most important and lay the ground work necessary to reach those plateaus.
Itâs been a while since my last post for those very reasons. Now that Iâm back on the blog bandwagon, my first goal is to address topics Iâm often approached about from young professionals. This year youâll see posts on how to improve public speaking skills, networking (online and in person) doâs and donât, HR laws and mandates, negotiating like a pro, and anything else hot in the world of human resources and professional development.
To start the week off, letâs take a look at what it is to be a desperate job seeker in an economy where the unemployment rate has dropped to a low of less than 5%. January and February just happen to be overrun with opportunities to shift gears! Many employers have their budgets in place and are salivating at the very thought of filling roles theyâve likely needed for quite some time. Fast forward to âthe search.â Youâve coined this year as the year for a career transition. All of the preparation and suggestions thrown your way have been finely crafted into a top notch resume, but you're still getting the run around from potential employers and recruiters... Thankfully, Liz Ryan has a few plausible solutions.Â
Read her article, Five Unmistakable Signs of a Desperate Job-Seeker, to get the low down on the types of behavior you should never settle for during your job search.Â
In the meantime, itâs great to be back and I hope you have a marvelous week!
