I keep seeing responses to this. Is this a troll post? How can you be 52 years old and have NOTHING saved for retirement? I’m 34 and I have retirement accounts lol. I’m not criticizing people for not being wizards with money or not scrimping and saving every extra dollar to own a house or to retire. I’m not a brilliant investor myself, and I buy particular brands of food I like, rent nice places to live, and have a nice car… I’m not one of those people who preaches that you should live off ramen noodles and sleep in a hovel as a rite of passage… but I’m also not going to be 52 with nothing lol. That’s just mind-boggling. Like a lot of people have pointed out, if you just put $100 a month in the stock market for 30 years you could easily have a couple hundred thousand saved.

Also, it’s on you if you’ve been working a low-wage job for 37 years and haven’t done anything to work your way up in your company, get more credentials, go to college or technical school, take on more responsibilities so that you can build a resume and apply for higher-paying roles, start your own business, etc. I’m imagining this person, if not trolling, works a low-wage, unskilled job, and that’s their justification for not being able to save anything. But still, to act like someone who works for 37 years and can’t afford their own home or retirement is a victim of circumstances outside their control is nonsense.
