To me this seems like a classic case of "domesticating the radical woman." Katara starts the show as a fierce feminist, from the very first episode calling out Sokka's sexism to her duel with Pakku, where she openly refuses to obey traditional gender roles and demands to be treated as a warrior. But when the story pivots to framing her primarily as Aang's love interest, her raw sense of justice gets swallowed up by his emotional needs. She transitions from an uncompromising warrior to an idealized emotional anchor. The second she shows that raw confrontational passion like demanding vengeance against Yon Rha, Aang immediately judges her grief. Katara was never like Aang, that we know, she believed in direct justice and was never afraid of confrontation. Which to me fuels the belief of Katara being written to be "tamed"
