Basically I am going to talk about htf and the characters as I watch each episode. I’ve seen the show before so this will be my second rewatch.

This is all done for fun and only my personal observations

The episode introduces Pop and Cub. Pop pulls his pipe out of his mouth and winks at the camera. Hmmm curious. What could the man be winking at the audience for? Is this an invitation?

Cub waves his arms up and down with closed eyes like the silly little baby he is. Awwww!

The two play a game of play ball right next to a highway. Pop reluctantly retrieves the ball and seems to be hit as he comes back with a tire wheel in his arm and tracks on his face. He successfully gets the ball just before falling off a cliff to his doom. Cub has not only walked through the highway completely unharmed he also climbs down the cliff with a rope perfectly fine. Compared to child physical milestones, I would say Cub is 3 or 4 years old. 

Clearly Pop cares a lot about his son and will go at great lengths for him. Cub seems to not very care for his dad, or realize his father’s death/pain. Lumpy appears at the end of the episode and fails to wheel himself out of the way.

A helicopter being featured in the episode is a huge impact as the helicopter was developed from the first successful rotary-wing aircraft, the Autogiro. This success was what led to the development of the helicopter especially for WW2. Combining that with the previous episode showing radio active waste you have to wonder what's happened in this world’s history.

The episode introduces Sniffles who just quickly pops up in the intro. They have an awkward stance and just blink.

They walk by an anthill while dividing 6 from 64 in their head. This shows that division exists in HTF as well as trade as that is main reason why we have long division today. They are also carrying a book which means they have language as well.

Sniffles immediately stops what they’re doing to go slurp up some ants. Perchance. In the shot of Sniffle's tongue traveling the anthill’s tunnels. We can see a dinosaur skull, a golden statue, watermelon, pineapple, radioactive waste, and a treassure chest. Only the ants have access to the pineapple, chest, and radio active waste. Hmm… curious.

The ants pray at the dinner table showing to us the audience that they believe in a higher being. As well as a portrait of an ant soldier implying the ants also go to war. The ants then use various ways to torture Sniffles for being a predator. 

Episode introduces new character Splendid who looks around suspiciously. Being on “look out” you could say. A man with a sense of duty with his paws on his hips.

Splendid likes eating acorns and Giggles’ leg is broken. He flies to save her once he hears her scream. So far Giggles has made a decent distance from the tsunami with A BROKEN LEG! Fortunately Splendid saved her right before the wave got her. She hollers in glee at being saved.

He closes his eyes and accidentally flies next to a tree as a branch knocks Giggles’ head off. 

Splendid lacks spatial awareness, even with his eyes closed he should’ve felt the branch was there since Giggles’ body is right next to him. 

He Shouldn’t be flying that low to ground or flying with eyes close either

Overall gives the impression he takes his job seriously, but is careless as well.

After realizing Giggles’ lack of head he puts an acorn in its place. Gives the body to her “mother.” He then does a salute as he flies off.

With how fast Splendid was flying to cause an accident like that. It reminds me greatly of Lumpy in the first episode. Both with their physically abilities had caused accidents, but differed in how they handled them. Lumpy just simply walked away from the situation whereas Splendid found a quick fix. Unfortunately it just makes the two unreliable.

Intro theme shows Petunia doing a similar “lean into wave” as cuddles from the previous episode. She’s a very friendly skunk. Handy pops up with a nice smile, but then looks at his non-existent hands. He looks back up in annoyance. 

We hear off screen construction noises which reveal Petunia’s new tree house. She looks up at it with joy on her face as handy wipes sweat off. Petunia then hugs him as he smiles at her, she then waves goodbye at him as she runs off. Handy nods in content. This all shows that these two characters know each other. Handy wasn’t just some random hire for the job. Though she didn’t invite him into the new home(this will be a clue later).

Once her house gets caught on fire the two equally begin freaking out. Handy motions his arms out for her to jump but she misses. He runs over to the fire hydrant, and realizes he has no hands looking at the audience in annoyance. He then makes it worse as he kicks a bucket of lighter fluid on her. Panicking he begins stomping at the flames(and petunia) with his boot(note first appearance of shoes). She then weakly gives an okay sign.

Petunia and Handy know each other to the point she hugs and shows no ill will at the end. Handy has to constantly remind himself of his disability, showing it’s recent/not used to it. Handy also has offscreen power, being able to build that entire house offscreen. Handy doesn’t handle stressful situations well. Petunia is a very good sport after and before being on fire. Petunia is also very durable.

The intro theme shows us Cuddles waving at the audience, giving a friendly smile with sheer excitement. Leaning into the movement, showing excitement when meeting a new friend. Giggles appears with a content grin, much more reserved than Cuddles. Batting her eyelashes, to add to her femininity and maybe show she’s bashful/shy. Toothy waves his arms up and down but with the same smile as Giggles, showing he’s excited but more reserved compared to Cuddles. Lastly Lumpy appears blinking giving a sense of absent mindedness. 

Lumpy spins the merry-go-round and toothy is the first one to fly off. This shows he’s the weakest out of the four. Giggles holds on tight to railing, but it comes undone, sending her flying. Cuddles holds on the longest but eventually subcumbs to his own doom. 

Lumpy looks around, walking away from the scene as if he was never there. A man who doesn’t take accountability, a coward. Though he is the strongest out of the four so far due to his ability to push the merry-go-round that fast.
