He's always welcome home; his mother makes that clear whenever he steps foot in his childhood house, and she emphasises the point by pinching his cheeks like he's still a toddler. Rudy is an expected guest; his mother has smacked him over the back of the head before for showing up without Rudy.

His father will grill Rudy about his motorbike and any work he's done on it recently, though he maintains it should be black rather than the cherry red Rudy so admires. His mother will maintain that they're both too skinny, despite being two men with admirable fitness routines and healthy diets.

Rudy's always welcome; Rudy is a part of their family.

It's why Alejandro's youngest sister doesn't hesitate to hand her baby girl over to Rudy and escape to the kitchen for a drink, not that Alejandro is criticising; he's been drinking since they arrived.

The baby is quiet, something Rudy appreciates as he holds her to his chest. He coos at her when appropriate, as the baby grasps his thumb with her tiny hand or when she babbles nonsense at him. He looks good holding a baby.

Alejandro wants it. He wants a baby with Rudy, to raise a child with the other man, even if they have to shape their lives around it. He wants late nights warming up bottles, getting spit up on, and getting stuck in a constant cycle of laundry. He wants to see Rudy hold their child as he naps on the couch with the little one tucked safely in his arms. Photos around their home of their little family, from well-dressed photos to candids taken in the kitchen where they look a mess. There's nothing he desires more.

But it's unfair. Rudy doesn't want children, never has and never will. Alejandro is not so selfish as to put his wants over the person he'll be buried alongside; he isn't so desperate that he'd throw away the peace that they have built for themselves by throwing an ultimatum at Rudy. To have a child and live a life you resent, or to walk away knowing Alejandro wasted years of his life in hopes he'd fall for the fantasy.

He won't do that. A life with Rudy is worth ten times the happiness having a child could provide him.

So the scientists immediately assume Grace has completely lost it and tell Rocky and Adrian and it goes like this:

Scientist: so.. Grace has requested we make him a kind of human drink..

Adrian: okay? Is there an issue?
