The Freecycle Network is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills.

The meanings of pink. Sunsets, watermelons and Pepto Bismal,pink Cadillacs,flamingos,Pink Panther, pink triangles of the Third Reich for male homosexuals.
āThe Meaning of Pink
Pink is a combination of the colour red and white, a hue that can be described as a tint. It can range from berry (blue-based) pinks to salmon (orange-based) pinks. Its symbolism is complex and its popularity is subject to so many influences.
One could argue that contemporary colour symbolism confirms these associations. Blue is considered a calm, passive colour, hence feminine. Red (pink derived from red) is considered active, hence masculine.

āThe Colour Psychology of Pink
Colour psychology suggests that different colours can have an impact on our moods, feelings, and even behaviours. The colour pink, for example, is thought to be a calming colour associated with kindness and femininity.
Some shades of pale pink are described as relaxing, while very bright, vibrant shades can be stimulating or even aggravating.
Since the colour is so strongly associated with femininity, people sometimes associate the colour with qualities that are often thought of as feminine, such as softness, kindness, nurturing, and compassion.
āHot pink is a vivacious and joyous. I think that hot pink embodies who I try to be as person: full of life and characterā -Ā DrEbz

āDesigning with Blue
Blue ranks so high as a favourite colour that you canāt go wrong if you use blue. However, blue can be over-used and may wind up a design clichĆ© if used alone. Combining blue with another colour creates a more creative effect.Ā It is cold, wet, and slow as compared to redās warmth, fire, and intensity.
Blue is the #1 favorite color of all people.
Blue has more complex and contradictory meanings than any other colour. These can be easily explained by pinpointing by the specific shade of blue:
Dark blue: trust, dignity, intelligence, authority
Bright blue: cleanliness, strength, dependability, coolness (The origin of these meanings arise from the qualities of the ocean and inland waters, most of which are more tangible)
Light (sky) blue: peace, serenity, ethereal, spiritual, infinity (The origin of these meanings is the intangible aspects of the sky)
Most blues convey a sense of trust, loyalty, cleanliness, and understanding
Meanings of Blue in Different Cultures
Greeks believe that blue wards off "the evil eye. The English āto feel blueā has no equivalent in other languages while in German āblau seinā (literally: to be blue) means to be drunk. Dark blue is the colour of mourning in Korea. The god Krishna has blue skin. Shades of blue are described as shallow or deep instead of light or dark in China. Blue is for a baby girl; pink for a baby boy in Belgium.āPrince Charmingā is called āThe Blue Princeā in Italy and Spain.
Points to Ponder
Supposing the colour blue was removed from the world, specifically the sea and sky ... what colour would fill the void?

The most common items of rubbish found in a snapshot survey of 30 British beaches were revealed to be plastic rope and small net pieces. In second place was plastic or foam fragments, making up around 29 per cent of the litter, with 7 per cent coming from plastic food wrappers, 5 per cent from plastic bags and 4 per cent from plastic bottles.

Members of the public are being asked to tag litter on beaches in drone photos in order to develop an AI that can automatically locate coastal detritus to help with clean-up operations.
The project is led by the British Science Association and charity The Plastic Tide which wants to develop a programme to be able to automatically assess drone surveys to provide publicly available information that could help target efforts to tackle the problem, such as beach cleans.
The Plastic Tide has used drones to fly over beaches, focusing on the high-tide line and behind, taking thousands of images which are then uploaded on to a website where people can tag bits of litter they see.

This report was commissioned by Seas at Risk, an umbrella organisation of European environmental NGOs which promotes marine protection and is the first attempt to create a picture of single-use plastic consumption in Europe based on consumption estimates for key items of plastic pollution.
The research uses market data from around Europe to extrapolate Europe-wide consumption figures for some of the worst offenders in terms of marine plastics, namely:
Plastic bottles;
Coffee cups and lids;
Drinking straws;
Takeaway packaging; and
Cigarette butts.

Recycling tipsĀ
Put recyclables loose in your bin. Please donāt bag them. Wash and squash your recycling before you put it in your Big Bin so they donāt have bits of food left in them. Take lids off milk containers and bottles to make it easier to squash them down. This helps most of the space in your bin. Lids and bottle tops can also be recycled, so make sure you put these in the Big Bin.
Why do I need to compost when my waste will break down in landfill anyway?Ā
When food waste is sent to landfill, air canāt get to the organic waste. As the waste breaks down it creates a harmful greenhouse gas, methane, which damages the Earth's atmosphere. When this same waste is composted above ground at home, oxygen helps the waste to decompose without creating much methane. Home composting is good news for the planet.
