Amethyst's brain at 3am

So far the only thing I've seen of this line is people brushing over it (justifiably) cause it sounds like pure bullshit. On first glance, it doesn't make sense in the slightest. But when you look at it there are so many potential meanings to this line it drives me insane.

First is the similarity to the phrase "head in the sand," which you've almost certainly heard before but to recap it means "refusing to acknowledge something unpleasant." Which (stares at flowery's entire thing with trying to make the dark world a form of escapism for asgore, along with trying to keep it around despite knowing that the flowers cannot survive in it) could mean nothing.

Second is a bit of a reach, but it felt like something worth bringing up. When you have your heart in something, you're passionate about it and care about it a lot. It kind of makes sense that a flower would have their heart in the ground, in a part of the earth, but it also makes sense if you consider the described "flower man" to be Asgore (which, personally, i don't and i do, i feel like it relies heavily on the surrounding context of the individual lines whether or not i think the "flower man" refers to flowery or asgore). Of course the owner of a flower shop would have their heart in the earth, it kind of just makes sense...

Until you remember that most flowers can't really grow in the sand. And that's meaning three; the flower man has his heart where flowers cannot grow. This, to me, speaks to both Flowery's relationship with the dark world, and Asgore's obsession with figuring out what's going on with all the dark worlds. On Flowery's side, the "flowers cannot grow here" thing is literal; the flowers will wilt and die if they stay in the dark world, but it's their dream, they can't just leave it! And on Asgore's side, it's metaphorical. This obsession with figuring out what happened, how to stop it from happening again, his clear want for revenge... nothing good will come from it. His self-blame has already cost him so much. Good things cannot happen down this path.

I drew these thinking ‘I haven’t seen anyone draw flowery without the vest on’ and then I did it too many times

AND THEN immediately after finishing up his regular evaluation of the Sinners, turns around and goes, "You should distort me now. I volunteered for this. My colleagues and I have bet on the particular creature I might become if my identity is voided by the phenomenon ;)." Like it isn't one of the most deranged demands coming from a guy who (1) actually understands what the consequences are and (2) totally has the option to opt out.

AND THEN when he distorts he goes "So you know how distortion reveals all your inner stuff? I don't think so. Also ignore the signs I'm haunted by something." The something turning out to be soul-crushing guilt.

AND THEN after everything he just goes off and mentions that he had predicted PRIOR TO THE EXPERIMENT that he thought he was going to be distorted and fundamentally warped forever, and goes "Thanks for helping out :)" like we hadn't almost watched him attempt to implode his identity.

And then off he goes.

As much as I love Berdly being a good friend in Chapter 5, and think that Kris losing touch with their relationships with both Noelle and Susie with them growing closer is tragic due to the double agent shtick…

Did anyone else catch that Berdly is going through the same thing but arguably worse?

Berdly’s only friends are assumedly Noelle (for sure) and Kris (implied).

And ever since Chapter 2, Noelle’s growing further away from Berdly to get closer to Susie while Kris has been growing apart from most people apparently.

And I say Berdly has it arguably worse because no one seems to care as much as people still do care about Kris.

I think it has to suck when everything’s quiet and Berdly’s thinking about how Noelle probably didn’t actually care about him at all, and that he’s worried about Kris’ growing distance due to his friendship with Susie. All of the people he likes grouped up and he’s been left out of the equation, and no one bats an eye because as Queen put it best, ‘he’s annoying’.

no matter what, the situation felt impossible. they couldn't leave to continue living somewhere else. the lack of sunlight would kill them. and closing the dark fountain would return them to being useless-feeling flowers who couldn't help the one they loved.

selfishly, for just a little longer, the flowers wanted to continue showing their Flower Man that they loved him, too.

they knew they'd die for their selfishness, but they needed him to know that they loved him, that they heard him, that they wanted to live their dreams for as long as they had time to do it-- together with the man who gave them their lives when they were meant to have died.

finally flowery stood down. because asgore told him someone needed to take care of the flowers. he felt their love and told them it was okay. he never would hold it against them for being unable to help-- he would love them, as he always had, and take precious care of them.

When we say our last goodbyes to the flowers before they returned to their original forms they speak of their dream, thank you for watching it, then return to their light world selves as flowers.

Flowery doesn't get that though, and he only returns to a flower when the Roaring Knight sliced him through

I think it says something, that while all the flowers wanted to return their affection to Asgore, they had dreams that were their own outside of him.

Meanwhile Flowery spent his time in the dark world solely on Asgore, that was the only dream he had

If we follow the same beats as the others I think we can determine Flowery's dream

here's how it usually goes:

But basically in one part of the video he comes to the conclusion that glass is symbolism for fate / the prophecy. And as soon as i heard that my jaw dropped. It immediately reminded me of the line from the Flower man song,

“Even if broken i am more than glass.”

That line always confused me. Like i knew it was a metaphor for Flowery overcoming some impossible odds at least. At first i thought it was about his fake stats, then i thought it was about how Flowery isn’t useless despite being just a flower. It all felt like grasping at straws, but with this it all clicked.

He’s saying “Even if failed, my impact on the idea of unchangeable fate is still felt.”

Thats what all of verse two is about isn’t it?

“…Fallen to pieces still without a plan. Yet the every daily hope that powered the Flower Man would never cower off of its path. Even if broken I am more than glass. So he lived…”

To me this is either Flowery hyping himself up before the Knight got his ass, or its the small part of Flowery that still believes in changing the prophecy after
