Amplify Korea Podcast

A weekly podcast focused on the independent Korean music scene outside of Seoul. This week I preview shows happening in Busan, with new music from Daegu band The Plums, and Busan’s Rapplekopf. 

Rapplekopf released their first EP 극 on the 20th of this month. They’ll hold a release show at Realize next week, while this week at Realize you can catch 3 Japanese bands in the first Fukuoka music exchange of 2019. One of those bands, Make The Pancake, make the trip over from Saga, and I play you their song Pop Kills Pop, which is stuck in my head since first listen. 

There are a lot of shows around Busan, with a free show at HQ on Friday night, a reggae festival at Node, and a stripped back set from Bathing Belles at Home cafe and bistro. There are so many more that I’m missing out on this week because I haven’t had enough time. This is the first time the podcast has gone out late since it started again, but I promise that all the things I’m working on will be worth it. I should be able to share all the news about it over the next few weeks.

Amplify Korea Podcast: Episode 69

A weekly podcast focused on the independent Korean music scene outside of Seoul. This week I preview shows happening in Busan, Ulsan and Daegu, with new music coming out of Changwon and Daegu. 

Changwon based act mcthfg released new album When You Awake at the start of this month, and I kick the show off with a track from that album. There’s also new sounds from Daegu acts Hi Elisa and Ashtray. Hi Elisa have a busy weekend, playing at Club Heavy in Daegu, and also making it to Yongsoro Fest in Busan. 

Yongsoro Fest is a 2 day event taking place in KSU between Ovantgarde, Vinyl Underground, and Club Realize. There are 24 bands playing, and you can get a 2 day ticket to catch them all for 25,000won if you book in advance. 

Low Feels are off to Ulsan on Saturday night for Sticky Fingers’ Paddy’s Day event, while 참깨와 솜사탕 are in the middle of a nationwide tour that brings them to Daegu and Busan this weekend.

A weekly podcast focused on the independent Korean music scene outside of Seoul. This week I preview shows happening in Busan, Ulsan and Jeju, and there’s also a bunch of new music.  

Ulsan punk band Take The Paris have organized a great show at Plug In on Saturday, with bands traveling from all over the country, including Jonny’spark  who make the trip down from Seoul. No Life Music makes  a return to Busan promotion with a free show at Basement on Saturday, with My Golden Age, The Vastards, and Dancing Noodle. And there’s a show at 낮과밤 in Jeju featuring Yeoyu and Seolbin, and 주낸드.  

I checked back in on Ulsan act Lossom, who released an EP last December, and there’s new music this week from Busan acts Girin and 소음발광.

Amplify Korea Podcast: Episode 67

This week I preview a few shows happening around Busan, Daegu, and Daejeon. There's new music from Say Sue Me who play Busan on Saturday. You can also catch Bathing Belles and Ne Obliviscaris in Busan the same night.

In Daegu a bunch of young new bands play together at Led Zeppelins, including Hon'z. And in Daejeon, Smoking Goose join a number of bands for a show on Saturday.

The episode is short and sweet this week as I was kept busy with the premiere of DBGC's new song and interview on the Angle website. Hit over to check it out if you haven't already.

Amplify Korea Podcast: Episode 66

This week I preview a few shows happening around Daegu, Busan, and Gwangju, with new music coming out of Busan from Futuristic Swaver.

The show at Club Rockwong in Daegu sees Synsnake make the trip down from Seoul, while Sever The Ear have an album showcase in Gwangju.

*Made a mistake on the date off the show at Club Rockwong. I got my months mixed up! It’s in March, not February. Oops. 

Busan is full of shows this weekend, with UK act Karkosa visiting, as are Daegu bands The Tools and Sang-Myung Shim. There's also a big show at HQ for owner John Meyerriecks' birthday, featuring local boys Dancing Noodle.
