Padmé II

Rey’s face fell when her sister continued to insist that she knew about her from Poe and not from their childhood. She pressed her lips together as she watched BB-8 roll over to the Queen and beeped happily at her. Clearly, they knew each other through Poe or something. “Yeah, I found him. He couldn’t travel from the base, it wasn’t safe enough.” She told her with a clearing of her throat. “He told me to tell you that it’s time to come home, to your father and your…sister. Your family misses you.” Rey told Padme softly. 

BB-8 and BB-9 beeped up at Padmé as she listened to Rey’s words, brown eyes focused on the little nicks and scratches along BB-8′s surface, muttering to herself little things she’d need to fix later before he and Rey left--but her gaze snapped up to meet the other girl’s as an eyebrow raises. “I... Don’t have a sister?” she blinked, she only had a brother. He was at the base with Leia.

Rey watched as the BB unit whirled around the pair of them and smiled, lowering the scarf covering her hair and following the two droids. She smiled apologetically at the handmaidens and began into the hallways. She had not been told by her father about all this, just that her sister had taken up the mantel left behind by their grandmother. She stepped into the quiet room after the droids and adjusted her bag, her saber knocking against the satchel as it moved in the belt attachment.

“No, nothing happened at the base. Poe’s fine.” She spoke with a thick throat, realizing her sister didn’t recognize her. Not that Rey recognized her either, but she was much younger when she’d been taken. “Padmé, it’s me. It’s Rey.”

The queen’s gaze focused on the lightsaber at Rey’s side, eyebrow raising ever higher at the younger girl’s words. Padmé was not sure how she should know this girl, but she remembered hearing about her from Poe. “Yes... I’ve heard about you from Commander Dameron... The former scavenger from Jakku who found the map to my father, am I right?”

“Your majesty,”

Padmé blinked up at the guard who spoke, leaving her finger where she’d left off in her blueprints as her handmaidens moved to surround their queen at the sight of the man the guards brought in. “Yes?”

“We found this boy trying to sneak in, Queen Amidala. Wondered what you’d like for us to do with him.”

The boy in question looked to be in his early 20s, long hair and eyes that she knew she had seen somewhere, she just couldn’t put her finger on where. The queen made a mark in the plans to know where she left off later before she stood, her hands clasping together as her dark eyes trained on this man before her. The Force was tugging at her, telling her something--she just couldn’t really tell what it was trying to say to her. Both hers and her grandfather’s old lightsabers hung at her waist beneath her outer robes, and each of her handmaidens was armed with a saber of their own--one of the many good things to come from her reign. Everyone who was force sensitive was trained by the queen for the protection of the planet and the galaxy.

“Stay close, BB-8.” Rey told the droid as she brought up the scarf over her hair to blend into the background whilst they filtered through the market. She’d come to Naboo to recruit her older sister, Padme, back to the Resistance. Her sister who had no idea that she was even alive. She ducked into an alleyway and knocked on the door she’d been directed to by her source in the city. Rey blinked in surprise when a brunette woman opened the door. “I-I’m here to see Padme.” She explained. 

“You wish to see Queen Amidala?” the woman blinked, the other handmaidens filtering into the room and whispering to each other comments on how this newcomer resembled their queen and her grandmother. The woman who answered the door was about to comment further but soon a little blue droid rolled up beside her, beeping excitedly at the sight of its orange brother. BB-9 whirred and circled its brother and Rey, tilting its head up slightly and scanning her, processing the information quickly before it told them to follow it.

The handmaidens parted the way, allowing BB-9 to lead their guests into the main hall, where the queen sat at the bay window with her hair undone and her makeup wiped off. “BB-9, how many times have I told you not to run off?”  Padmé asked, not looking up from the book she’d been reading until BB-9 bolted to its mistress’ side, announcing the arrival of BB-8 and his companion. Brown eyes sought their reflection in this girl’s gaze, an eyebrow raising in confusion as she closed her book and stood from her seat. “You’re not Poe... Why do you have BB-8 with you? Who are you? Did something happen to the Resistance base?”
