SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

12:16 a.m. — Police found a man climbing a lamppost on North Pleasant Street in downtown Amherst. He was advised the lamppost is not a jungle gym and was sent on his way.

6:35 p.m. — Police took a report of a possibly rabid squirrel in a McClellan Street yard. Police found the animal was calm and nibbling on a nut.

4:22 p.m. – An argument occurred between a person advocating for a tree in downtown Amherst and a man leaning against it. The man agreed to move so he wouldn’t damage the tree.

9:48 a.m. – Police provided a man resources about shelters after his roommate removed him from an Amherst home following an argument over their middle names.

11:49 a.m. – Police spoke to a North Amherst woman who claims her former landlord is using invisibility gear to enter her home, which is the only explanation she could give as to why when she wakes up each morning items are moved around the residence, and rubber bands are on her arms.

9 p.m. – A woman called police from a downtown location to report being hit in the face, suffering a laceration to her chin and tongue. Police determined she was intoxicated and had stumbled into a wall, injuring her chin, and bit her own tongue.

12:31 p.m. – A man holding a sign and an aspiring filmmaker creating a documentary about the man were both advised to leave the middle of the roundabout on Triangle Street. At 1:30 p.m., a third man in the area with a sign disparaging the other sign holder was warned about his actions. Police went back to the scene again at 2:17 p.m. when the original man with a sign had works threatening millennials printed on it.

11:16 p.m – A loud noise inside a Pine Street home was determined to be a picture displayed on the wall that fell to the floor.

5:49 p.m. – A cat that ran up a tree outside a Main Street apartment building was rescued by its owner, who briefly got stuck in the tree. The owner and cat made it out of the tree safely, according to police.

11:53 p.m. – Police assisted an Amherst resident concerned that the scissors she uses for sewing could be used by an intruder to harm her. Police advised her to keep her doors locked and the scissors out of sight.

1:32 p.m. – Police freed a squirrel that got its paw stuck in a bird feeder at a Leverett Road home.

4:36 p.m. – A man reported he was assaulted at the Jones Library by a person who blew on him, and also may have used witchcraft.

11:46 p.m. – A man reported tampering with a vehicle parked at Puffton Village, prompting a call from security officers and deployment of K9 Marvin, was determined to be intoxicated and was just trying to hide from his friends. A sober friend was contacted to look after the man.

6:20 p.m. – A man kneeling next to a vehicle on Churchill Street and tugging on the door handle told police he wasn’t trying to break in, but rather to let people trapped inside out. Police determined no one was in the vehicle.

12:57 a.m. – A man and woman who told police they were having a “deep conversation” in a private parking lot on Gatehouse Road were sent on their way.

11:53 p.m. – Police were called to a Pine Street home for a report of suspicious activity. A woman who was home alone at the time said an unknown person was knocking at her door, but police officers determined the noise was likely caused by bats flying in the garage.

8 p.m. – Police took a report from a man who ordered pizza but used the wrong address on the website. Police determined the pizza was brought to the wrong address, but the people there paid for it. The man was later able to reorder the pizza using the correct address.
