This Valentine's day, when it is also the day of Aphrodité, i thank Her for the protection of me and my partner, for being hidden in all the beautiful moments and memories, in the flowers i always get for my love, in the sun that shines on us and in the wind that brings us together.

Natural remedies have side effects, too.

They are not less dangerous because they are natural.

You still need to consider dosage.

You still need to consider interactions with medications and other things you're taking.

Some of them will not work for you.

OP had an experience with someone in the local witch community who was taking six cups of 'anti-anxiety tea' per day and gave herself lavender poisoning because she didnt think herbal remedies could harm her.

Lavender is fine to take daily in small doses, but if you start feeling any of these symptoms, even if you dont think lavender is the direct cause of it, please stop for awhile and see how you feel. Consult a doctor if it persists.

Myself and friends have noticed a large influx of activity into witchblr, and since we've already had a king's ransom of how to witchblr posts for beginners, I'd like to present a how to witchblr post for practitioners who've already been at it a fair while.

So, if you're a practitioner who's already been at it for a fair while and this is your first time on the magically side of Tumblr, I gotta tell you:

There are a fuckton of belief systems coexisting here, and if you can't figure out how to be chill with that, you're going to have a bad time.

I remember my first culture shock coming onto Tumblr. I was a young witch of about 2 years experience or so, primarily raised up on a few books and one very insular witchcraft forum. "I know how magic works," I confidently told myself, because I was young.

And I got to Tumblr and basically immediately found out that no, I do not know how magic works. I know how magic works FOR ME. I know my own beliefs. But the second you step past your front porch and try to tell other people their ideas are wrong because they conflict with your personal beliefs, you're gunna have a bad time.

There are a lot of witches on Tumblr who flat out do not believe spirits or gods are real. And they're friends with theists and spirit-workers. There are a lot of witches on Tumblr who completely follow the psychological model, and they break bread with magic literalists. There are witches on Tumblr who aren't from the USA (****shocking!!) and will tear your "ackshually, here is what the colors REALLY mean" chart to shreds, because as it turns out, that's not what red symbolizes in the Philippines, nor do they give a flying fuck about the Golden Dawn has to say on the matter.

If you are uncomfortable existing in a space where people with different fundamental beliefs expect their ideas to be treated as equal to yours, Tumblr might not be the right site for you.

That being said... experienced practitioners of witchblr: reblog this and tell us about a time you made a mistake in your practice. Tell us how it happened and what you learned from it. If you're reading this as a beginner, read through what people reblog. I hope you can find some kind of comfort in the fact that even the experienced practitioners on this hellsite aren't perfect.

One of my own mistakes: I was once burning a bundle of herbs I tied together with some twine for smoke cleansing. Something in me kept saying "keep burning it, not enough smoke" (spoiler alert: it was the inner arsonist saying that). Well, I smoked up my entire bedroom. Couldn't even see the roof. Also smoked up the living room and kitchen, but not as bad as my bedroom.

You don't need to set up shop as a teacher, content creator or influencer here. You can participate and be a respected member of the community without all of that. It's fine if that's what you're into, but you're not really expected to be or produce a product here.

Along those lines, understand that a lot of us are keeping personal blogs, and yes we will talk about personal experiences, which might not be intended for other people. If it's helpful to you, great. If you disagree* or (gasp) feel that it is UPG... yeah, it's a personal blog. Move along.

Witchblr is kind of a small world, and tumblr's block feature only works so well. If you can avoid unnecessary drama with people, that'll be helpful in the long run, 'cause you're gonna be seeing them around, and you'll probably have mutuals in common. Not to mention unnecessary drama is unpleasant for everyone and, well, unnecessary.

You don't have to share every moment of your craft. Most of us don't.

Have fun, be silly, make friends. There's a lot to learn and contemplate here, but also a whole lot of silliness (and terrible fire safety. Just absolutely piss poor).

If you only study witchcraft, you're not going to be the best witch you can be. If you're going to use herbs, study botany. If you're going to use meditation and mindfulness, study theraputic methods like DBT and CBT. If you're going to use astrology, study astronomy. If you're going to use cooking and baking and drinking, study gastronomy and mixology. If you're going to use crystals, study geology. If you're involving paganism that has its roots in a particular time and place, study their histories and cultures. If you're a technowitch, study computer science.
