so like. as the main Crossover Doll defender (i don't think they're the Problem™ with AG atm, but more the barbification of Truly Me and lack of attention towards Historical dolls), uhhhh yeah making a doll of an irl person feels. Really fuckin weird and corporate. IDK anything about Megan Maroney, IDK anything about her art or who she is as a person, but this is a weird-ass move.

What was the context for ‘I think I know more about American Girl than you genius’?

If all of the AG characters were in ATLA, what bending type would they practice? Who would be the avatar, and would there be any non-benders?

I’m very shocked that after all this time, there’s still not an official December birthday for these characters! Granted I get that the classic historicals had to have a spring birthday for consistency, but with Caroline breaking the mold on that, you would think they’d try.

Like okay I'm just gonna say it I don't think the collector/crossover dolls are the problem with AG right now. Like yeah they're emblematic of Mattel trying to get AG to pander more to the Barbie audience than, like, kids who read history, but let's be real: the Truly Me and GOTY lines are what get far more attention from corporate. They dropped the new Birthstone outfits RIGHT after Disney Princess Jasmine™, which completely overshadowed her release. The TM dolls have one shit billion items and outfits while most Disney dolls have like, one if they're lucky. The GOTY lines are mainly just pink and frilly stuff which is fine in general but when you've got Girly Girls four years in a row it starts getting boring and kinda sus. Like Daisy's going to be a jock and yet she's wearing pink skirts in the middle of the woods? Not to mention the Collector dolls themselves are like $300 each, so WAY more likely to be bought by actual serious doll collectors rather than the target audience. Except instead of also marketing their historical collections to the target audience, they're using them as nostalgia-bait. When they could, like, you know, just keep producing more sets and promo for their historical collection. But no! We gotta get these girls an airline set!!
