So today I did something a little bit different.... I road the train to Tallinn by myself and explore alone. Iāve taken many trips here with friends this semester but never alone. So I decided to last night to celebrate the end of the semester by doing a mini solo trip.
Iāve been more active on my account this semester. I thought that weād be exploring more of Estonia (thanks COVID) but we ended up not.... but here are a few things I learned this semester.
1. The sun setting at 18:00 is NOT early
2. 4C is warm and enjoyable
3. I donāt think I ever want to go home
4. Girls are nice
5. The Estonian language is very confusing
6. Public transportation is a god send
7. Education shouldnāt make you go THAT into debt
8. American Christianity is fucked up
9. Cooking alone is not fun
10. I know why quac is extra at chipotle
Election
Two things Ā I have learned while being here during Election SeasonĀ
1) Thank the 12 oz sweet baby Jesus I am not in America right now and have no plans to be back for a while. The entire election is causing me anxiety and I am half way around the world.Ā
2) HOLY FUCK it gets cold in Estonia! Before moving here I thought I understood what the cod was because Iāve been skiing before. But boy was I wrong. It gets dark SO early (and is only getting darker faster) and itās already so cold. I literally have my heater turned up so hot because Iām freezing. I even wear my coat..... guess I will be getting a new coat before too long because the Levi Sherpa Jacket is not going to be warm enoughĀ
Do you know what I miss? Going to bar and hearing Mr.Brightside and Chick-fil-a. I miss those things more than anyone can guess ...... but do you know what I donāt miss walking out in public and being scared that Iām going to be raped for walking out in the dark. You know itās a give and take but I defentally donāt miss being scared to walk in public at nightĀ

Quick question : How the fuck do people handle the cold?! Itās not even the coldest months ....Ā
Also, side note but you can definitely tell I come from the south. I was talking to a few of my friends and was pumped that the forecast showed snow. Itās a small amount and since itās not freezing it wonāt stay... but snow in OCTOBER!!! Thatās so cool. I was literally getting so excited. They are all from places where it snow and were all just rolling their eyes
AwkwardĀ AF
So I got back on Tinder once I moved in part because self-isolation was soooo boring but in other part because I wanted to see the average person looked like here and in part because I havenāt had a proper make-out since March (thanks covid - but at least I was socially distancing). Well I havenāt really used it after self-isolation because I was content with hanging out with classmates and classes have started to get more intense and I know that I donāt have the energy to even have just a casual fuck...... well last week a few classmates went out. We were talking about smoking weed and realized that several people in our group want to try it and those of us who have really wanted to again. However, since we are all new to this country we donāt know where/how to get it. Back home getting it is EASY. All of my friends have their medical card so itās simple. Here though it isnāt as easy. So we had a great idea to get on tinder and try to find it. While we were talking about tinder and we asked one of the guys if he had a tinder. (Now is a good time to say I had pre-gamed the bars and no one else had so I have drunk (6/10) while everyone else was pretty sober) I saidĀ āOh I havenāt seen you but Iād swipe left on youā Drunk me probably didnāt make it clear that I meant it as a friendly way because a good rule of thumb is donāt swipe right on people you know. But I donāt think it came across that way and drunk me probably didnāt explain it that way. Anyway so I swiped right on literally everyone to see if I could get the hookup... At the time I thought it was down to me and one other person... weāre a bunch of science majors so I didnāt assume anyone else has an account. It is true what they say, that science majors tend to be introverted (thankfully for a scientist I am an extrovert introvert) Welllllllll I was on tinder today because I was suppose to be in class and loe and behold guess who I found.... yep, my class mate. I OBVIOUSLY swiped left but it left me shook!!!!Ā
Okay , I know this is a lot of photos of flowers but oh my god šāļø there were so many that I couldnāt decide which ones to post and these were my favorite. I know this is something simple but itās crazy to me that there are so many things you can do in this city for free. We went to the botanical gardens and just walked around and enjoyed the views. After wards we went to a beautiful restaurant and had a nice dinner... I canāt believe I almost declined because I was quite hungover.
Hey!
I am not sure yet what all this blog will be. If it will simply be like a diary where I write down whatās happening or if it will actually gain some traction. Either way itās something need to do because life is getting too stressful.... but one thing I do know is that the grammar on this blog will be sub-par. I am horrible at English. So horrible that I picked my major based solely on the one that was least likely to have writing.... but maybe this will be a sex in the city type blog. Who knows.. so I guess an introduction is needed. I am currently in Estonia. With COVID starting to ramp up again that means the Estonian borders are pretty much closed and traveling outside of Estonia is a no go. But who needs to go to another country when this place is a dream come true. I am almost literally half way around the world. Itās crazy to think. But I am so so so happy to be here. I am getting my masterās degree in chemistry through a program that allows you to spend one year in one country and another year in another country.... apparently thatās common here! Ā Itās not a thing back home and honestly I am in heaven. Literally everything is amazing. So to keep things short (for my sake) hereās a list of the things that I have already noticed that are different than the US:Ā
1. No body wears masks and we arenāt scared of catching COVID because the numbers are so low
2. the beef is NOT good. This one isnāt the big deal but I wanted a burger the other day and it was not the same.Ā
3. the pizza is like gas station pizza... again not a huge deal but man I was really wanting pizza
4. the culture as a whole is very homogenous... meaning there isnāt a lot of POC here and for me that isnāt a huge deal but it stinks for those who are a person of color.... I even have had several people tell meĀ āyouāll be treated just fine, you look Estonian and youāre from AmericaāĀ
5. Walking is a thing for everyone... I am not scared of being raped while walking from the city center back to my apartment
6. The university doesnāt have a lot of tests or homework which is both nice and stressfulĀ
7. everyone speaks another language ... which is fucking awesome but it makes me feel like a fraudĀ
8. Health care is FUCKING amazing!!!!! I went the ER because I was afraid I broke my foot (turns out it was just a bad sprain) but it was less than 50 euro for the entire visit... also I needed to get emergency contraceptive and instead of it being $50 it was 15 euro..... like what the actual fuck?!?! Why are we asĀ Americanās putting up with that bull shit. If people are so anti-abortion (I hate pro-life because itās not pro-life just anti-abortion) then why not allow women to take a pill before the sperm and the egg actually meet?!?!?!?!?Ā
I donāt know, I know that living abroad isnāt for everyone and I havenāt been here very long - let alone out of self isolation for very long but so far I think this will be a good experience. I canāt wait to see what all my future will hold and get to meet as many new people as possible.Ā
