thinking about the SU song “Drift Away” in relation to Pandora, especially in regards to toxic coerced loyalty and such between her and Petras. (ex Boyfriend) Alongside Spinel and Rose, I like to read the lyrics as if Pandora is watching herself drift away in the gripes of emotional abuse and such, as opposed to watching somebody else drift away like Spinel did.

“Happily wondering Night after night Is this how it works? Am I doing it right? Happy to listen Happy to stay Happily watching her drift away”

I also really love how, in my mind, this song touches on hindsight often being 20/20 after leaving abusive relationships— in particular the thought of “why the fuck didn’t I just LEAVE?” OUUH IT ALSO RELATES HEAVILY TO THE ERASURE OF VICTIMS IN MY MINDDD… I’ll give you oc lore related context

Before Niall eventually slimes his ass, Petras gets essentially doted on by the entire year group after Pandora “cruelly and abruptly dumps him with no warning, after all those years they spent together!” Whereas Panda stays significantly quieter with her experience. When she finally does open up to people, everyone’s already kinda biased by Petras’s loudness, leading her to often receive comments like:

“I hear you, but he was really hurt too you know!”

“Everyone’s emotional you know, couldn’t you have just talked to him?”

“Well why didn’t you just leave?”

This leaves Pandora to walk a weird line between being villainised and forgotten for a while, while she watches Petras become shrouded in support by his peers, which these lyrics really remind me of—

“Isn't that lovely? Isn't that cool? And isn't that cruel? And aren't I a fool to have Happily listened Happy to stay Happily watching her drift Drift Drift away”
