Watched The Suicide Squad for the first time. It was great! Probably the actual best DC movie, which just goes to show that you just give a passionate filmmaker who knows what he is doing relatively free reign and you'll get good results.

Note that this does not apply to Zack Snyder, because he does not know what he is doing. He's a hack. It's been established.

Anyway, to totally contradict myself right away: having now seen this, gotg3 and Gunn's Superman, it's pretty clear to me that Gunn was not a good pick for actually headlining your whole cinematic universe. From a business and mass appeal standpoint anyway. From just "it'll probably result in entertaining movies" standpoint it was a fucking great pick, though from what I heard Supergirl casts doubt to even that, but obviously some are gonna be duds.

It's just so obvious that Gunn latches onto characters, elements and actors he likes in a very unfocused, devil-may-care manner. They made a Supergirl movie because he read a take on Supergirl he liked, put her in one film, and immediately her movie had to be put into the top of the pile, over the biggest Superhero names around that everyone expects you to actually build this franchise around. It's entertaining to follow, but not actually looking good for this cinematic universe to live on much longer then the previous.
