❝ — what do you think?” lorelei asked, turning to julietta with a pensive expression. she was at her farmer’s market, on the hunt for fresh fruits to inspire her latest café specials. “raspberries, blueberries... lemon? i have been wanting to try out a blueberry lemon bread recipe,” she mused, picking up a lemon and giving it a sniff. “what looked the best to you this morning?”

❝ — good morning, leo!” lorelei greeted, eyes and smile bright despite the early hour. (she’d been up for hours.) “can i get you anything new today, or would you like your usual?” she asked, already moving to begin prepping his order. “oh! also, i just put out a fresh batch of cranberry-orange scones. interested?” she loved nothing more than giving people good food and good drinks — nothing made a place feel like home quite as good as a nice meal prepared with love (even if that meal was just a hot beverage and a pastry.) 

❝ — carmen!” lorelei exclaimed, bursting up behind her friend with a vibrant smile and bright eyes. “look, look at this!” she held up the thrifted find — a vintage black denim jacket with sherpa lining. “you’d look so good in this! i think it’s your size, here, here–” somehow she was more excited to have found something for carmen than for herself. “don’t let me pep and enthusiasm deter you, you’d look hot in this.” 

❝ — hearing the bell ding above the entrance to the café always made lorelei perk up. it was a busy afternoon; the tables were mostly full, and she was currently balancing a tray in one hand and cleaning supplies in the other while she began gathering dishes. “hi!” she called over her shoulder to the patron that just walked in. “i’ll be with you in just a moment–” she kept stacking mugs on her tray until she was certain one more would send them all tumbling down and hurried back behind the counter. she’d deal with cleaning them after taking this order. “sorry about that,” she apologized, somewhat breathless. “lunch rush. what can i get started for you?”

❝ — she laughed at the girl’s obvious relief. although she loved the museum, these luncheons weren’t exactly a happening event. they were laid back, mellow and lacked a certain amount of energy. “i’m lorelei,” she introduced with a bright smile, standing up to make her way towards the bar. “it’s nice to meet you.” she knew the museum like the back of her hand, having attended events here before. the bar was always set up in the same place. “they have a decent drink selection — nothing mind-blowing, but enough to help make it through.” 

❝ — oh no! that’s awful,” lorelei commented with a laugh. she was certainly hesitant to have her portrait drawn (specifically by caricature artists) for fear that they’d pick out some feature she was insecure about to emphasize — but tossing a drink? “i can’t imagine being so upset with someone that i’d pour my drink on them. not only is it rude, but it’s a waste of a perfectly good drink.” glancing back at the sculpture with a grimace. “but you’re right, i shudder to think of what the godly equivalent of a drink pour would be...” with a dry chuckle, she continued. “my uncle used to tell me stories about the myths when i was little. he made them more child-friendly to the point that i used to think they were all benevolent and forgiving...” another laugh, “and then i read the same myths when i was older.” 

❝ — yeah, caffeine withdrawal will do that to you,” lorelei commented as she prepared his drink. “that’s why i just stay a little caffeinated at all times.” she flashed ezra a playful smile — she was joking of course (or was she?) “here you are, one instant pick-me-up in a cup.”
