Joao Ruas’ “Knots” at Thinkspace Projects.

Opening on Saturday, December 14th, 2019 at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, California is the outstanding solo exhibition from Joao Ruas entitled, “Knots.”

Ruas combines ancient references with the contemporary, to create timeless visual mythologies. A gifted figurative artist, his works explore the universal themes of transition, power, strength, transformation and loss with an empathetic tenor. His haunting works are inspired by the age-old function of myth as an antiquated system of attributing meaning to natural and human chaos. Ruas’ beautifully executed lines, love of detail, and quasi-Gothic aesthetic, recall the late 19th century golden age of illustration, and its propensity for lush hand-drawn worlds. Fascinated by the enigmatic mystery of lore and symbols, and drawn to the use of recurring contrasts, Ruas punctuates his work with a system of evasive signs. His pieces always tend to reveal the spectral traces of graphite in the end product, a choice that discloses both the presence of the artist and the ghostliness of his universe.

The exhibition will be on view until January 4th, 2020 and should not be missed if you’re in the area.

Supersonic Art friend & artist Paul X. Johnson has just released three new stunning limited edition prints which are available in his shop.

Ozabu’s “Wander” at Thinkspace Gallery.

Currently on view in Culver City, California’s Thinkspace Gallery Project Room is Japanese artist Ozabu’s phenomenal solo exhibition “Wander.”

The immense detail of Ozabu’s illustrations is incapable of being displayed on a screen.  These works of art must be seen in person as her wondrous abilities allow for some of the most precise drawing I’ve ever had the luck - not sure that that word truly describes the level of chance - of coming across.  So, if you’re in the Los Angeles vicinity, or you feel like going on a whim definitely stop by to see her work.

Jana Brike’s “Superabundance of Ordinary Being” at Modern Eden Gallery.

Opening on Saturday, August 5th, 2016 at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco, California is the excellent looking solo by Jana Brike, “Superabundance of Ordinary Being.”

In Superabundance, the artist is in her stride, working with a deft hand, she weaves a soft and supple, hyper-visual narrative. Her dream-like subjects are wrapped within the forest’s lurid color and pattern, where certain revelations are both discovered and feared. The works explore the overwhelming range of emotions, from the innocent to the ecstatic, sorrow to joy, and peak at the place where sensationally charged beauty meets a dangerous and wild nature. 

Craww’s “Vessel.”

British artist Craww recently produced a 104 page book of his stunning drawings and sketches from his Moleskine notebooks between 2010-2015 entitled “Vessel.”  The remaining copies from the original Kickstarter campaign are now available in his store.  Each copy is signed and numbered by Craww himself!

Kikyz 1313′s “Progeny of Chaos” at Thinkspace Gallery.

Opening this Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 at Thinkspace Gallery in their Project Room is the debut solo show of artist Kikyz 1313 with the gallery entitled “Progeny of Chaos.”

Kikyz 1313, who’s real name is Laura Lucía Ferrer Zamudio, creates some of the most intricately detailed mixed media works of art I’ve ever seen.  The work is a layered series of emotions - first of the beauty that first reaches the eye, then the horror as the shapes take form.  The writhing, horrific scenes invoke senses of disgust and intrigue, mystery… Questions one might be afraid to answer.  These works of art are beautiful nightmares.
