Living for working and studying could take its toll on any woman, and it was no different with Camila. She usually managed it pretty well, always trying to sleep early and eat healthy to effortlessly fulfill her obligations, but even she had to stay home and rest sometimes. That was one of those rare days when there was such a strong feeling of a weight on her back that no choice could be made other than laying down.
As a matter of fact, her original plans didn't include inviting Nicolas to come over and stay with her, but it turned out to be a much better idea than anything she could have previously thought. She always had considered her tiny apartment, cluttered with academic books and the few possessions she had brought from home, as a holy sanctuary isolated from the useless rest of the world and, for that reason, there was no better place to meet him again. At the same time, letting him come into that safe space so soon was thrilling in a way that she couldn't understand, which drove her crazy. Camila had a lot of pet peeves, it was true, but not being able to control the situation or foresee what could happen was one of the biggest ones. Suddenly, just hanging out seemed too personal, and the uneasiness struck with her even after the quickest shower ever taken and a short moment of cleaning. Nothing could be done, anyway. He was already coming, and she would let him in.
Silently waiting for him on the sidewalk, she grabbed him firmly by the arm as soon as he got out of the car, not talking a lot before they were in the safety of her apartment. “I have a gossipy neighbor and I didn’t want to give them reasons to talk about my life.” Her explanation to such swiftness came in a weird tone, her voice a little too high-pitched when it came to talking about a trivial subject. Alone with Nicolas, the concerns regarding spending the afternoon with him seemed too silly, and she still tried to convince herself of that while throwing her arms around him, smiling and waiting to be pulled even closer. "Now I can greet you as I should. Hello, love."
Nico had always loved being a crowd pleaser. His good looks and way with words had always granted him a free pass at whatever it was that he put his mind to, and that certainly applied to getting attention from anyone, anytime. When racing, he made sure to put on a show, just enough to get people screaming and chanting his name whenever he felt like hearing it. In order to get things happening for him, however, he knew he had to put some care and time into what he wanted to exceed at, that being something or someone. Somehow, that was how he found himself obeying Camila's every little want and whim, never backing down from her hideous requests or simple invitations to be next to her.
Deep down, Nicolas knew he didn’t do that with any ulterior motives apart from genuinely liking the girl. If that hadn’t been the case, he surely would’ve already found a way to get their little agreement to end. As days went by, he found himself intensely focused on her as a person, curious about her way of being and why exactly she still gave him the time of the day. What once felt like a joke suddenly started being treated with the uttermost respect by him, and because of that, he didn’t back down any of her needy pleas that sounded like music to his ears. As a matter of fact, as soon as Camila made her wishes to have him at her place known, he was out of his apartment as fast as lightning, cutting down time by driving past red signal lights and outpacing every other car on his way. He found it thoroughly funny how she would drag him by her little fingers inside her building without much hassle, always walking around like the world meant nothing behind her superior looks and over-the-top qualities. Nico definitely appreciated that in a woman; he liked them elegant and with enough backbone to boss him around, never the opposite.
“Why, are you ashamed of me? I find myself to be quite good looking. Bet she wouldn’t care.” He chuckled lightly before closing the door behind him, pulling her in for a tight hug as soon as he heard it click locked. “Hello, little wife. You called and I came, at your service for a very long cuddling session and whatever it is that you decide to cook for me.” Tilting Camila’s face up, Nico slid his long fingers through her dark locks, exposing her elegant features for him, one sleazy smile curving his full lips before setting them upon her high cheekbone in a long, thoughtful kiss. He made sure to take full inventory of her cramped place, so much like her it made him crazy, excited to explore every little nook and cranny in order to uncover more about Mila and whatever made her the person she was. Twirling her so that her back was glued to his front, he walked a few steps inside the apartment, not letting her go from his iron-clad embrace even for a second. “Where’s that room of yours, anyway? I could use a bed right now. I’m tired and want you around to take a nap with me.”
"That's the problem, actually. You are too good-looking and I want you for myself." Deeply satisfied with the fact that he really had come to be with her, she let herself be embraced and kissed by him, enjoying the feeling that showed up every time Nicolas's eyes were on her. More than anything, Camila loved being spoiled and caressed, looked upon and treated like the best thing in the room. Fortunately, Nico still hadn’t failed in making her feel like that even through texts, driving her up the wall. She wondered how long she would have to wait to, hypothetically, make him commit. That time he wasn't driving, and she intended to take full advantage of that. "Don’t be so pushy. You talk like you are the man of the house." She giggled, looking for his hand to hold while guiding him through the small apartment.
Even though she couldn't have a lot of stuff, she still pulled an effort to maintain her room neat and interesting enough to make it undoubtedly hers. Traces of her personality could be seen all over the room: the pretty and usually kept shut curtains that she had bought with her first paycheck, the fancy sheets only displayed when she had someone over or wanted to feel special, a pair of drawers that were with her since childhood and, last but not least, the black nightstand with a ridiculous amount of little trinkets on top, including a single picture frame with a photo of her family that she put down as soon as they got into the room. Camila couldn’t help but imagine if Nicolas was paying actual attention to all the little details around the room, the subtle things that revealed more about her than anything, or if he was too focused on the idea of lying down with her to care about anything else, only to put away the thought on the spot. “Come here.” She hurried up to lie down first, positioning herself with the back against the wall. “Are you really tired, baby? What you did today?”
Even though Nicolas was used to having fun, he never let himself have too much of it, lest it became a nasty, incurable habit. And when it came to having fun, he knew that the only thing that ever lightened up the mood apart from driving was going out with women. There weren’t that many of those, since he still held a few values learned from home and the perceivance that nothing should be serious until there was no more way out. Because of that, he rarely ever saw the same girl twice, always jumping from one meetup to the other in order to keep his mind sane and safer than ever. With Camila, however, things felt different. He didn’t care about taking her out multiple times and doing anything she requested of him out of a whim. He didn’t care that they weren’t really doing anything apart from pretending to lead a happy married life, never reaching any of the levels that usually made him apologize over texts to whoever his date was and move on with his life. And above it all, he didn’t care that plenty of the affection he faked for her had started to feel very much real, way too real for his liking, red alarms blaring inside his head and readying the racer for the moment things would have to end. In that moment, he felt like much of it was still far, far away from ever meeting its final seconds. If he had to sit around her place and pretend that he was still taking it lightheartedly, so be it.
“Well, now I am, so don’t you ever bring any other men over, not even when they’re from food and mail delivery.” Nicolas chuckled lightly over her remark about him being the man of the house, so used to making himself comfortable wherever he went. As he finally made way inside her bedroom, the racer made sure to pay extra attention to every little detail that made the space, and most of it all, to Camila. That meant that even her swift movement to hide whatever it was that the picture frame displayed didn’t go unnoticed either, but still he chose not to comment on it. When it came to personal talk, Nico made sure not to get himself involved, not until it became inevitable. “This place is so you.” Winking at the girl, he made sure to collapse right beside her as soon as she made herself comfortable on the bed, not even caring about being ceremonious over it. “Just worked and worked, also studied a bit. I’ve been taking care of some stuff for my dad in Kingston so my load has doubled lately.” He sighed deeply, turning around in her direction and crushing his play-pretend wife in a breathless embrace, all his limbs engulfing her until she disappeared into his arms. “And what about you? What were you up to today, and what is it that you’ll burn for dinner later?” Kelly made sure to question her with his signature sleazy smile, turning his head down so that his nose would brush sweetly against hers, not even caring about the fact that he barely knew the girl and was already displaying all his needy, insufferable behavior.
If anything, Camila liked to appear unattainable as a way to keep control of who could have access to her. Her catholic upbringing was strong enough to make her believe from an early age that it was the right thing to do, and even if she had changed her mind since childhood and redefined what she meant by keeping herself distant, the concept pretty much stayed the same. Few were the ones who seemed worthy enough to know and touch her and even fewer were the ones who had been able to achieve that, something that she thought of as the highest honor someone around her could receive. That's why Mila couldn't help but be surprised at herself for inviting Nicolas to come over so soon and giving so much of her attention to him in such a short period, having more fun with his promises to make her a stay-at-home wife and his little declarations of love than she would care to admit at that point. It was silly to let a man in so early, she knew that perfectly well, but did it really mattered when he seemed fine until now? Of course, one could argue that an illegal race wasn't the best example of a perfect suitor, but he seemed to give so much of himself for the races that she was willing to ignore that fact if he kept proving himself worthy of her. She could fix him, for sure.
"Because it's messy in an organized way?" She joked lightly, listening to him attentively while enjoying the closeness of the moment to analyze his face. Nicolas was more than pleasing to look at, in a way that they would look perfect while together if they ever reached that point. She could already imagine their pictures, to be fair. Before Camila could even think of something to answer, she got caught up in his embrace, smiling harder than she should when she looked at him again. "First of all, I don't burn anything in the kitchen. I was taught well." One of her eyebrows was raised, daring him to say otherwise. However, her frown was ruined by Nico's little action and she had to smile brightly again. "I don't know. Pasta, maybe? Are you already hungry?" She used his neediness to display her own, extending her arm to gently caress his hair. "And I didn't do a lot of things today. I just went to work. It's an internship, actually. I should be watching classes right now, but guess what."
It didn’t take long for Nicolas to realize that Camila wasn’t like the usual girls that surrounded his car whenever he got lucky in a race. In fact, those women’s catty and annoying tones weren’t anywhere near the girl’s cool facade, one she maintained with ease, alluring enough to make him view them as an interesting change of scenario instead of a threat. For the racer, things were rarely posed as a challenge, but always as a pastime, a way to inspire dominance even when being nonchalant about it. In the beginning, meeting Mila felt much like yet another opportunity to gain common ground with his charms. However, after spending some time with her and being a subject to her twisted ways and possessiveness, he wondered if the person that rolled the dice in that game, after all, wasn’t her instead of him.
“No, because it’s effortlessly perfect, just like you.” As he rolled his eyes at her remark, so keen on every single detail that composed her delicate, ladylike features, Nico yet again felt like falling under her spell. Even so quietly, it was clear as the sky that Camila was still scheming, coming up with the craziest scenarios inside that beautiful head of hers. Instead of being weirded out over such a possibility, the racer didn’t feel anything but allure, so curious to know what went through her mind when they were close like that. It made him want to go further. It made him want to get a thousand other reactions out of her. “Pasta’s great. And just like the good little wife you are, I know for a fact that you won’t be burning my food.” He let go of his ramblings as easily as breathing, sighing in pleasure over her caresses on his unruly strands. “Aren’t you a rebel? Would actually scold you for ditching classes, but since it’s because of me, I’ll just let it slide.”
Detaching himself as little as he could from her lithe body, Nicolas made good use of those few millimeters to stare into the girl’s dark eyes, so fascinated by every single twitch and sigh produced by her. He had been around beautiful women countless times throughout his life, yet Camila was still different. Even though he couldn’t quite put his finger on the reason why, he was still willing to try. “Don’t you worry, Camila love.” Sliding his finger down the silky feel of her cheek, Nico traced the elegant curve of her jaw before engulfing it with his big palm, pressing a soft kiss right on top of one of her cheekbones. “I’m still enjoying this little play-pretend of ours. A bit too much, as it seems.”
Something that Camila wouldn't admit for free was that she craved attention more than anything. She needed someone who could recognize her as the unique human being she was, a man who would voluntarily pamper her and accept her excessively overbearing nature. Letting the truth be told, she would like to let her guard down at least for once, with someone who made her feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable and still remain in power afterward. Plotting and scheming was the natural state of her tireless mind, always trying to find ways to take advantage and get off the hook in everything, but it would be good to take a rest sometimes. For now, hanging out with Nicolas in a forcefully careless way had to work. "Relax, I really needed to rest. You have no idea how being a wife and a student at the same time can drain someone's energy."
Letting out an angry sigh over his unexpected distance, she was ready to push them back together again when she felt his touch on her jaw, making her lose her train of thoughts. "Oh, I had no doubts. I can see it clearly." Camila figuratively bit her tongue, trying to hold back the impulse of answering that she wasn't playing and pretending at all. If she was only joking around, they would have never reached anything other than social media interactions and he would be far away from her bed, as it usually happened with most of her flirts. Maybe he was used to getting the easy attention of those annoying women who watched every race in hopes of finding their way into a winner's bed, but she didn't want to appear as in the same level of one of those. Not even for a minute.
His last sentence, however, was enough to ease the storm starting inside her head. Daring to trace his features with her index, she attempted to continue. "What would be a bit too much? How is that?" Even though it was a tricky question, Mila honestly wanted to understand what he was trying to say. His answer could be capable of determining if he would be out of her apartment or still lying down with her in the next five minutes, the reason behind why she was trying her best to sound casual and not frighten him. "Communication is essential in any marriage, I heard."
