Adelsberger - Final Project
Doc Edgerton
I had some audio problems, so apologies for the buzz....
Behind the scenes - Edgerton

I am doing a short documentary project on Harold "Doc" Edgerton. I have two interviews set up, but no footage. I have secured the rights to some images, but don't yet have the high resolution images yet. So, in the absence of any suitable material for a video trailer, I made a slideshow instead. It is about 90 seconds long.

I thought people might be interested in this talk. For Boston folks, it is happening 5-7 PM Tuesday 3/20 at the MIT Media Lab. Video of the speakers will be posted after the event.
CNN.com Cell Phone Project
Did anyone notice the cellphone piece on CNN.com by Zack Arias? Personally, I prefer Jasonâs piece from last week though.
brynmore
Agreed. The music certainly added to the tone of Jason's, but the framing/composition was more compelling, the contrast added more depth and the subjects were just more interesting. Go Jason!
Fairy Tales - Project 1 Pitch
Iâm home sick today, so I taped my pitch. Â Enjoy.

I could not make it to the class tonight! But here is my 60 seconds pitch for project 1. I would like to make a documentary film about a band.
Tell us more about the band! What kind of music do they play? What is the band called? How many members?
For assignment #4 I decided to take photos of everyday objects made from the bodies of animals.Â
I live in a small town in the Alps where a historic reliance on the meat, fur, skin and bones of animals has contributed deeply to the local aesthetic. I tried to display the pervasiveness of animal âflesh and bonesâ by showing a range of manifestations-Â from practical, to edible, to decorative.
For my âsoundtrackâ I chose to recite some excerpts from a poem titled âThe Bearâ by Galway Kinnell. The poem details an exhausting several-day pursuit of a bear by an Eskimo hunter. As he tirelessly stalks the bear, the hunter begins living off of bear blood and excrement, and when he finally reaches his prey, he opens up the bear and crawls inside him to hide from the cold. I appreciate the mood and rawness of this poem, and think that the way in which the world of the hunter and hunted collide relates to the theme of my photo montage. I included some windy wintery sounds to add to the ambiance.
Iâm sorry my assignment is terribly late, but I home some of you will get a chance to check it out anyway.
Wow, this is great. I love GK. That last photo of the packaged meat show as you read about him crawling into the bear was a killer.
Project 1 pitch - Alain Ibrahim
I have recently been examining the structures in our universe and started coming across some parallels. My goal in this project is to present one set of parallels that will cause the viewer to question what we already know about the world.Â
Here is what I am envisioning:
Scenario A: Blood cell in human being, travels through blood streams, reaches major organs such as heart and brain. The blood cell gives oxygen to supports a humanâs life.
Scenario B: Human being in car, travels through roads and highways, reaches majors cities. The human being works and supportsâŚâŚ?
In this parallel, could we humans be supporting life to a bigger entity?Â
I like this. Would the emphasis be on the function we perform when we get to our destination, or how we get there? Getting in your car to drive to a city is one thing and getting on a city bus, on your bike or on your feet is quite another.Â
Assignment 4
My focus for this assignment was graffiti. Â I borrowed a Canon 60D and I spent the day going through Allston, Mission Hill, and other parts of Boston looking for graffiti. Â
Wow, this is great. The image are lovely and the music was the perfect choice. You created a great sense of depth capturing the foreground images in lots of these shots. Well done.
I chose METAL as my theme for this assignment. Of course I found had 40+ examples within a block of my front door, but I tried to be a little selective as I walked around my neighborhood. I also included a few examples from an earlier photo project that focused on my local bike shop. The song is El Mansiero De Potemkin is by Gnawledge. Itâs copyright free, so check out their music here if you are interested.

Yan SUâs Assignment III
Interview With A Foreigner in Geneva
Geneva has a large foreign population (>40%). Some of the foreigners are transient and some of them are settled. Iâm always curious to know what drives them to stay in this town.
To shoot for the video, I used my iPad 2. Then I edited it with iMovie, though editing was not required for this assignment.Â
Nice framing and I am impressed that this was done with as iPad! One thing I noticed is that the subject is on the right side of the screen but also looking toward the right side of the screen at the interviewer (looking to his left, that is). I think the convention is to have the subject looking across the screen, so that if he is on the right side of the screen, the interviewer should be seated to the left of the camera (or iPad!) so that the subject is looking (and talking) across the "talking space".Â
I also like the map at the beginning!
Assignment 3: I Still Consider Myself A Skater
Our passions define us, even if we donât have time for them anymore. My friend, Jordan Schmidt, a once an avid skateboarder, talks about his skating life, past and present.
I like the 2 different camera angles.
