Maybe the most damming thing about Nolans odyssey is i havenāt seen a single gifset from it
Okay but the comments here are INSANE. āWe really need to circle back to Xā meaning either āwe need to keep this meeting on subjectā or āwe need to come back to this later so this meeting can stay on subject.ā That isnāt āaggressiveā this guy is just a misogynist.
What IS aggressive though, is tracking your bosses words so you can confront her about a quirk of her speech patterns in a group setting. I am not at all shocked he got fired.

NPR has learned that the Department of Health and Human Services will not be finalizing its most aggressive attempt to end gender-affirming
Some ok news for once. Seems HHS is backing off their most recent attempt at a national care ban for trans kids due to the massive legal hurdles it would have faced. This does not mean other ongoing efforts to target care providers and orgs like WPATH aren't still ongoing and still a major concern, but it is good to see that we won't have to fight this specific battle (a proposed and now discarded rule that would have attempted to deny Medicaid and Medicare funding and coverage at any hospital that provides gender affirming care for youth)
āDespite this being called a āfinal rule,ā we have time to fight back. Nothing will change overnight.ā
IMPORTANT UPDATE
HHS has now finalized a much reduced version of the planned rule. The previous proposed rule would have denied funding to any hospital found to be advancing "gender ideology," and not just medicaid reimbursement for trans procedures but instead a total defunding of all Medicaid and Medicare payments, which would put any hospital that didn't comply out of business and would have had huge nationwide effects for trans care.
The current version is much narrower and meant to survive legal scruitiny: it only says that federal Medicaid and CHIP money will not cover gender affirming care for anyone under 19. Hospitals can still provide said care and keep their funding for other procedures, and there is no threat of funding being withdrawn over "gender ideology."
Still, what this rule would mean, if it goes into effect, would be that low-income families relying on Medicaid and CHIP would have to pay out of pocket for their trans children's care. The rule is slated to go into effect in October, although it will face legal challenges and the courts could hold this thing up for a while.
But, at the end of the day it is still sad news for trans kids and young adults reliant on Medicaid and CHIP, and of course is only the most recent effort in the ongoing right wing anti-trans hate campaign.
for no reason whatsoever hereās a reminder that if you consider yourself a leftist/punk/abolitionist/anarchist/radical in any sort of way and get called into jury duty, you are to become the most square person on earth during the jury questionnaire!!!
donāt be that guy who says fuck the police in the jury questionnaire! that just gets you sent home! if you want to generate change, interact with the case and use your jury vote for good! ESPECIALLY if itās a high profile case!
Remember, when you're on the jury, a good "that cop's story didn't add up" will sway a lot more Chads and Karens than "fuck the police."
Had jury duty, can confirm!
An innocent man is home with his family instead of spending his kids' whole childhoods in jail for "resisting arrest" when none of the cops could agree on why he was being arrested in the first place. (But it definitely had nothing to do with him being a Black man in a nice car, honest! š)
And it still took like two hours of delibration after we'd heard all the evidence because one lady was so gung ho about believing everything the cops said, even when not a single goddamn one could agree with their own testimony, let alone their colleagues'.
Pointing out all the inconsistencies and admitted misconduct and letting people slowly come to their own conclusions as the trial played out was fucking hard, I won't lie. I can be patient, but it doesn't come naturally to me.
But. Yelling about how this was obviously a bs case would have shut everyone down and made them stop listening. Asking questions and letting people discuss how the cops tried to make xyz sound suspicious but it was totally normal, or about how if things played out the way the cops said then logically events should have proceeded in a totally different direction, and positing different theories that actually lined up with the evidence presented?
That got people thinking, and everyone realized that for a variety of reasons we all had reasonable doubts that the defendent had committed any of the crimes of which he was accused.
Being able to raise reasonable doubt among a jury of one's peers saves lives. If you get the chance, take it.
"Jury Room / The Holdout" (1959) by Norman Rockwell. One of my favorites of his. Particularly the gendered dynamic he depicts here.
I think cis women should be allowed to get top surgery even if its not for a medical reason like breast reduction or cancer. I think they should be able to get it even if they're completely cisgender. Some women are just sick of dealing with them and would be much much happier never needing to wear a bra again
one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.
He said no way š„¹

Once i had a teacher who was OBSESSED with
A) resource guarding
And
B) Harry Potter
So naturally, every time someone didnāt have a pencil she would charge them 10 house points (which, even in schools where there is an actual house point system, probably doesnāt fucking happen). She openly held the belief that she had to ascribe value to these precious writing implements or else no one would appreciate them, a concept evidenced by, i kid you not, how when homeless people are given houses for free they let them fall into disarray, because they didnāt pay for the house and therefore didnāt care about it. I, a pissed off 13 year old with a vendetta against power hungry teachers and also JK Rowling, brought a 100 pack of pencils to school so that whenever someone had to ask for one, instead of being charged a fictional currency and upsetting their fellow, deeply competitive students, i would just give them one. If the pencil didnāt come from the teacher, she couldnāt charge points for it.
This upset her. She couldnāt assert her power over the 1st period Advanced 8th Grade Math Class anymore. For i, The Pencil Liberator, had come to put an end to her tyrannous behavior.
She told me to stop about 30 pencils in.

In her first video interview from Johnson County Jail, Hill says she is a āpolitical prisonerā who has been unjustly locked up by the Trump
āMy basic assumption was, you know, the judge had obviously made his mind up about our guilt before the trial even began, and so it didnāt take me by surprise at all when I actually was sentenced to 50 years in the Bureau of Prisons. I knew, like, this is about making an example, this is about creating a narrative that, you know, anyone who resists the Trump administrationās agenda of mass deportation, is going to be made an example of, is gonna be treated this way, that if you stand up, if you speak out, we will bury you. I knew that that was what this was about the entire time that we were going to trial, and it was why I said from the very beginning, āIām not gonna plea to anything.ā You know, like they offered us plea deals, you know, we could have signed to 15 years for material support for terrorism. And I took the risk that I took of, you know, going to trial because I was like, Iām not going to create evidence of this non-existent terrorist conspiracy. That goes against everything I believe in.ā ā Autumn Hill
