I often think of myself as having like. Really low social draw distance. Like you know how sometimes you'll be playing a poorly optimised computer game on suboptimal hardware and to make it playable you have to move the draw distance way down so you can only see about ten metres in front of your character? That's me, but instead of the environment, it's just. The broader context of literally anything that is happening. If I'm supposed to pick it up by implication, I promise I haven't. If it's a connection that anyone would draw, I probably didn't. I know how to crochet in a star shape and make vaguely amusing Tumblr posts. Everything else out there is under Fog of War.

I wanted to use what ‘reach’ I may have here to share the Carolina Wildlife Center’s urgent plea for donations. If they are unable to raise $75,000 to cover ongoing and future care of their wildlife patients, the center will have to close July 20th, 2026. The services provided by CWC to the community are incredibly valuable, and without them, many wild animals will suffer without the care they need.

Something about me that might surprise my mutuals: oh god, idk. maybe my blocked tag list? I was just talking to someone about how I have The Pitt on my blocked tags bc while I'm happy for y'all, those gifsets are LONGGGGGG and I don't want em on my dash. I've also got Steven Universe blocked, and that Digital Circus thing, and Deltarune, and Sonic... idk maybe I'm a hater. I believe strongly in blocking tags not unfollowing people but that's just me!
Favourite Drink/Soda: I'm a big seltzer person lately. the summer Polar flavours are really hitting. I used to make my own kombucha but I stopped taking care of it and it died :C I also really like that Agua de Kefir stuff though I can only find it at Trader Joe's. when I'm feeling bougie I loooooove the 'severed lime' flavour Liquid Death. I also love sweet tea, but I usually have to make my own because I live in the Northeast.
An activity/hobby that you do: oh so many! and a lot of them fell off while I was super burnt out and depressed. I knit, I'm working on some woodland animal plush for my friend's 1 year old and a pair of socks right now. I like making little.... idk what to call them, paper sculptures kinda? I like sculptural work better than drawing but I also like to draw. I'm a big video game girlie and I've been replaying a lot of the Nancy Drew point-and-click games lately. getting the puzzles quickly makes me feel smart and competent xD I also like crosswords, though I've fallen off my streak lately. I used to play cello pretty seriously but donated my cello years ago and haven't gotten back into it. maybe after my dissertation is done.
A TV Show/Movie that you’re watching right now: The X-Files, but slowly. it's a first time watch for me (I think I'm in the midst of season 4?) and I am LOVING IT. I'm kind of rationing it - only watching a couple episodes at a time. movie-wise, we just watched Sinners last week and holy shit did I love that. 100/10 vampire creature design.
A book you’re reading: I'm reading The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall, which is one of the first like, Lesbian Novels. it's good and very moving but also very sad bc it's about being a lesbian in like 1910 (it takes place over a long period of time so I'm being rough with my dates) which was obviously not great or fun. to supplement how not great and fun that book gets, I've also been re-reading Samantha Irby's essay collections, which are also heartbreaking but are more often hilarious. my fave book of hers is We Are Never Meeting in Real Life with Wow, No Thank You being a close second. on my lunch break today I plan to start Meaty, and when I do that I'll have re-read all her books again this year!
Favorite Dessert: mango sticky rice, grocery store marble cake with the good buttercream, mini cupcakes, cotton candy, funnel cake, those Snickers ice cream bars, Cadbury mini eggs, s'mores, coffee ice cream (or a coffee ice cream milkshake), flan, churros... you give me a sweet, I am prooooobably down with it.

Something about me that might surprise my mutuals: uhhh. I'm really into soccer/fútbol. Like. I have been for years. I follow Major League Soccer (MLS), which is the U.S. pro league. I have 3 teams I particularly go for. I have been loving the World Cup and have watched as many games as I have time for. However I don't have time to watch the games today or tomorrow which I am so sad about. I'll probably get spoiled... which kinda sucks. I don't like spoilers for my soccer.
Favourite Drink/Soda: Caramel Black Tea w/ tapioca pearls and coconut jelly from Gong Cha. 70-100% sugar, normal ice. It's so good. I drive by my local Gong Cha on my way home a lot and its soooo hard not to get a little treat. I rarely get it and its actually very helpful for practicing self control but oooooohhh the temptation.
An activity/hobby that you do: So many. Recently, I've been working on making keychains. I bring them to events and give them out to people. Like Trinkets. I'm also big into Sudoku and other placement logic games. I read a lot of fanfiction. which is a hobby, I suppose.
A TV Show/Movie that you’re watching right now: Currently re-watching Elementary. in Season 4 right now. I usually watch an episode over lunch a few times a week. I really adore murder-an-episode shows.
A book you’re reading: I'm re-readng Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron. Its a fun YA Fantasy thats a take on the aftermath of Cinderella. And it's lesbian so that's also fun.
Favorite Dessert: Gotta be a tie between flan and tiramisu. Which reminds me that I need to make a tiramisu before my gluten free lady fingers go bad. so. within the next month.

Something about me that might surprise my mutuals: I feel like my mutuals know me pretty well, but... I don't know. My typical surprising facts are that I hate cake and don't like dogs. I don't read that much science fiction, I've never beaten a Pokemon game, or Minecraft. I'm absolutely ass at chess, I don't know any of the digits of pi. I broke my first bone last week. Hopefully something in there got you.
Favourite Drink/Soda: Dr. Pepper. Somehow in the last year this has become a bit amongst all the people I know. At my birthday party last week I was given 9 mini dr. peppers, one 12 oz. can, and an entire 2 liter. I just have a caffeine addiction that can only be sated with soda, honestly.
An activity/hobby that you do: Community theater, for the past 2 years. I had a period of time last year where for 2-3 months straight I was involved with 3 simultaneous productions. I also managed to do a short film within that same time window. I value my sanity a lot more now.
A TV Show/Movie that you’re watching right now: Most recently went back to trying to watch Criminal Minds in its proper order; I've gotten to the beginning of Season 2. I also need to go watch S2 of The Pitt and finish a bunch of other shows. Oops.
A book you’re reading: Just started a book called Margin of Error by Edna Buchanan. Got it for free roughly 12 years ago and just haven't read it until now. I've gotten like 5 pages in. Technically also started the first LOTR book but... not really. I think I'm still on the prologue or something like that. And in theory I'm still working on the Wheel of Time series.
Favorite Dessert: Mint chocolate chip ice cream, which I know is a controversial take but nevertheless is true. I love it so much that it's made me That kind of lactose intolerant person. You know.

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"
My little brother insisted if I was going to post about him, he wanted a cut of the "profits". When I explained to him that Tumblr isn't monetized, and is pretty pointless, he and my older brother pointed out that he'd still be bringing me "fame and notoriety" if the post got "big". So we agreed, if the post hit 10k notes, which seemed extremely farfetched and silly at the time, I'd take my little brother out for sushi (his favorite food) and let him eat as much as he wants.

abandonware should be public domain. force companies to actively support and provide products if they don't wanna lose the rights to them
Game companies hate emulation, but none of them seem to understand that a lot of us would just buy ROMs from them directly if we could. I don't want a fifth remake of Final Fantasy IV, I want to pay five bucks for the 3MB file you already made bank with thirty years ago. Nobody who wants to play something for the purpose of retro gaming is going to consider a $40 remake as the alternative option, and we're certainly not going to let the original dissappear. They're crying about opportunity cost for a product they're not even selling.
op i know you're probably talking about like, video games, etc, but this is also critical for research science - my lab has so much abandonware, either because the company's out of business, or the company decided to not maintain it, and it's a fucking nightmare. we have two windows 95 computers that are CRITICAL for performing experiments/data analysis because the software needed is abandonware. one of the main roles for a guy in my lab is to maintain these little dinosaurs because if they go out, we lose access to ~20 years of raw data for research. part of why is that these companies also make their own file types, and make it difficult-to-impossible to convert those file types without their specific software. by habit, i convert all research files to more generic versions (txt, pdf, tif, etc) so that i minimize risk of losing my shit, but some stuff can't be converted.
for example, we have a microscope that is perfectly functional, good microscope, but its software is abandonware because the company refused to maintain it. the company is still in business, still makes essentially the exact same software, but they made all of the old tech incompatible with new software to force people to buy the new microscope tech. it would cost a quarter million dollars to replace this microscope. this perfectly good microscope.
so like, i know a lot of people look at the original post here and go "well op just wants old video games to play" (which is valid! games companies should not be able to push shit to abandonware and then close it off) but also this is critical for like. biomedical research. if y'all had any idea how much basic infrastructure built on science relies on shit that is technically abandonware, you would probably be horrified.

being as i am an idiot, and having been one my whole life, i just wanna say that i find it very easy to do nothing, and go nowhere. i eat chocolate late at night in the dark. i stand in the garden also. and i’m often waiting for something to happen. and i’m stupid.
