Not a Yu-Gi-Oh! blog?

“How convenient,” Kaiba muttered under his breath. Well, maybe he could use this to his advantage– convince this guy to stick around, run some tests. If he was just a thief with some hacking skills, then he might jump at the chance to stick around and steal whatever he was after. (And Kaiba would want to know his location, to have him apprehended.) And on the off-chance he really was from another world, there was no one in Japan– or perhaps in the entire world– with better odds of sending him back where he came from. 

… Not that the man knew that, it seemed. Irritating. 

“Hmph. What a shame.” It shouldn’t bother him that he wasn’t known (or never existed?) in every dimension. No, that’s a stupid thing to be bothered by. “Well as I said, in this reality, I invented the duel disk. So I guess you’re saying someone else did, where you’re from.” Were duel disks a universal constant? Like if he hadn’t invented it, someone else just would’ve? That left a bad taste in his mouth… Probably wasn’t the right way to think about it.

The question was a bit unexpected, Kaiba quirking a brow. “You could call it ‘researching.’ Industrial Illusions produces the cards, and my company produces all the associated tech, including the hologram chips. I’m always looking into new ways to boost the experience. As for mass…” Hm. He wouldn’t pretend like he had never looked into it, but… “They’re lifelike, but not tangible. Attacks are programmed to simulate impact, without causing real damage. Although, I know some people would love to use my holograms for a purpose like that.” He hated the idea of his tech being used for violence. He’d hate to leave that door open again. “Are you trying to suggest…?”

“Maybe. Or maybe it’s just been long enough since you... Invented Duel Disks that people have forgotten,” Ryo shrugged. Didn’t really seem like the important thing here. Although... Perhaps he’d have a different view if it was his life’s work being minimised. Hmm.  In any case.  “I’m not suggesting.” A demonstration would probably be the easiest way to make this Kaiba understand. He took the top card from his deck - almost sighed in relief when it was the smallest monster he had - and placed the thing on the disk’s blade. 

“That’s certainly not something common where I’m from.”

The wrong sort of attention? Sounded like a chokehold on however these people were crossing dimensions. “Naturally” sounded a bit like the power of the Plana, and the Quantum Cube, but Kaiba highly doubted it was that.

“You know any scientists you can point me in the direction to then? Because I’d like to know how this all works.”

Even in a reality that followed different rules, it still may be helpful to his research.

“Or would that be considered ‘wrong sort of attention’ and they’d bite my head off?”

“I’d worry less about losing your head and more about what else they might put in there,” Asuka laughed, but her eyes remained free from mirth, “I might know someone who can help you, though.” 

If, of course, he was even still alive. But better to send this person on a wild goose chase than deliver him right into the enemy’s claws.
