Old Bessie Road, Piedmont, South Carolina.

The Morris Island Lighthouse was constructed in 1767 and rebuilt several times. It was first officially lit in 1876 with first-order fresnel lens that was installed January 1st, 1858. It stands at 161 feet and has 203 steps. In 1886 the Charleston earthquake cracked the walls of the lighthouse making it slightly lean permanently northeast. It was decommissioned June 15th, 1962.

Located on High Battery, with sweeping views of Charleston Harbor and Fort Sumter, sits one of the grandest homes in the city, the John Ravenel House. This historic residence, circa 1848, is one of Charleston’s most recognized homes.

Now called the Starlight Motor Inn, this motel was been lovingly restored with help of lead architectural historian Brittany Lavelle Tulla, who in 2019 was able to convince the city to take the property off of its list of condemned sites. In 2020, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the motel features 51 retro vintage-style guest rooms, a pool and cocktail lounge. The infrastructure and original midcentury design remain intact with minimal alteration.
