I usually don't do things like this, but desperate times force us to take desperate measures. Let me preface by saying that I'm from Venezuela, and if you have seen world news at any time in the last 2 decades, especially in the last 5 years, you should know that the socio-economic and political situation here is absolute hell. My government calls itself democratic when in reality it's nothing more than an authoritarian regime.Ā
In the last 2 decades, the National economy has deteriorated to the point of driving 95% of the population into extreme poverty (The other 5% are corrupt government officials that have been robbing people's money for decades). The hyperinflation here gets (if I'm not mistaken -and I shit you not) to 1500%. Yes, that's fifteen hundred percent. People more knowledgeable than me about the subject have determined that the income for an average family should be the equivalent of 500-700 US dollars to cover all their basic needs in a month. Do you know how much is equivalent to the monthly minimum wage in dollars? Today, November 18, 2021, at 5 pm the minimum wage is 2.21 US dollars. Yes, Two dollars twenty-one cents. Now, you might understand why in the past years there has been a migration of Venezuelan people to other countries in South America, North America, and Europe. Over 5 million people have left the country, seeking better opportunities elsewhere.
Why do I tell you this sob story? Because despite my family being lucky over the years and able to put 3 meals at the table a day, our situation has changed. My stepdad, who is the primary provider for our family, got sick. Two weeks ago, he had surgery to remove a tumor from his abdomen. The medical expenses are never-ending and we're looking for an extra source of income.
So, my mom is an amazing crocheter (an unbiased opinion, I assure you), and she made some things to sell. Some are in stock and others can be commissioned.
