Fnaf 2 is no longer a prequel, but a sequel. Another company bought the Fnaf IP and created new animatronics, destroying the old ones for concept unification. However, because the old animatronics were haunted by ghosts, they keep coming back to the pizzeria and causing trouble. The Toy animatronics leave you alone normally, but attack the old animatronics on sight. The old ones will ignore you if you wear an old Freddy mask, but then the Toys will attack you, so either way you have five of these fuckers on your ass.

The kids that William Afton killed were just kids, not, like, his daughter and his business partner's kid and whatever the fuck. He's an engineer who moonlights as a child murderer, we don't gain anything by complicating that.

The haunted animatronics just want to kill Afton, but in true ghost fashion they have shitty aim and face blindness.

The kid in fnaf 4 is the victim of the bite of 87, which was just a mechanical error. William Afton gets blamed and fired, which leads to him killing more kids to make the business fail (which it does). If we wanna go farther we can say he sabotaged the Toy animatronics in Fnaf 2 to ensure the business would fail. In true serial killer fashion, he can't stop returning to the scene of the crime to gloat, which results in him getting killed by the ghosts haunting the old animatronics and becoming Springtrap, allowing fnaf 3 to play out normal.
