I saw a firebird once...

a tiny little thing,

even smaller than a hummingbird.

Literally made of fire.

It only lives for a minute.

It blazes different colours and sings.

It gets so bright you have to close your eyes.

And when you open them, it's gone.

With that being said, here’s a list of things I wish made it into the movie:

Grace’s “holy fucking shit!” after seeing the blip-a for the first time

Literally anytime Grace compared Rocky to a spider

Stratt nuking Antarctica + the climatologist(I don’t remember his name) having a breakdown and crying

Dubois and Shaprio’s relationship + Grace being awkward

When Grace gets drunk and sad because he thinks he’ll never see Rocky again after they complete their mission

“Easy for you to say when you’re not the one being murdered! You’re murdering me!”

Grace coming back to Project Hail Mary so he can save his kids

“You are leaky space blob.”

Grace’s pure excitement(rather than fear) when realizing the blip-a is an alien spaceship

COMA GENE

Rocky bringing up the panspermia theory to explain why astrophage, Eridians, and Earth life have similar cellular structures

(Honestly, literally every time Grace and Rocky started talking evolution theories.)

Stratt being a history major

“I am emperor comatose, bow before me.”

Marisa the college friend

Grace being the one to name astrophage

Grace thinking he’s going to die from starvation when he turns around to save Rocky

Rocky telling Grace that Sol has returned to full luminosity + “Your face is leaking! I haven’t seen that in a long-ass time!”

i know rocky still technically got to play with the measuring tape in the movie but the way it happened in the book always makes me smile when I read it. :]
