When Melinda was small, about 4 or so, her mother brought her to a small cottage in Denmark. It had been owned by her grandfather who passed the ownership on to her mother when he passed away.

For Melinda, this place holds nothing but happy memories. Once a year, every year, Melinda and her mother would stay in this little cottage, usually for about a week. They would spend the first day cleaning, the second day shopping, and the next few days playing games, going for walks, and just having fun together. At night they would curl up on the couch in the small living room and watch a movie or tell stories. Melinda would fall asleep, her mother would put her to bed, then a few hours later Melinda would wake up, crawl out of bed, then crawl into her mother’s bed, curl up next to her, and fall asleep. This was their routine, their tradition. 

After Melinda’s mother died, and Melinda went out on her own, the cottage became little more than a fond memory in the back of her mind. It was years before she stepped foot in that cottage again, and when she did, it came with a rush of emotions she was not ready for.
