Alice couldn’t give her honest opinion on the matter, it was too personal for her, and she’d hated that she feared what Katrina said was true. That they’re all WRONG. “What makes you wonder that, Kat?? I see love true love everywhere, even if it’s not romantic.”

“ hey! come on now, i’ve better taste than that— ”

          a groan fell from his lips at the extra weight - no matter how light it was - and he tapped at her thigh affectionately with one hand, the other tossing his textbook aside. “ —as much as it would piss my father off. you know how much joy that gives me. ”

“Better taste!! Rude!!” Alice pouted, lightly bumping the corner of her elbow into his ribs because how dare he ever insult her favorite sunglasses. It didn’t matter that she loved him infinitely more than the sunglasses, she’d still chastise him for it. While she didn’t want to laugh at the idea of Rabastan pissing off his father, the idea was funny, so she covered her laugh with her mouth as she looked at him. “Imagine just sending him MUGGLE pictures of you in the sunnies, Bastan, I truly think you’d look wonderful in them but I’m sure you’d also give your father a coronary.”

Yawning, she leaned her head on his shoulder, “anyone bother you today?? Besides the USUAL suspects??”

“Was that a joke, fortescue? Surely you must be joking, because while I know you’re quite insane, if you truly believe that we ought to check you into St. Mungo’s now.” A fitting place for most of the people she associated with, if you asked Layla. How she’d managed to share a dormitory with her for seven whole years was beyond her. Thank Merlin for Florence. “The herd, is that what we’re being called now?” Though she was fully aware of the follower-like mentality of most, it was just amusing to be rude. “You know what they say - those that go together, fight together. So I’d watch that mouth of yours. I’d just hate for something bad to happen to you.”

Why couldn’t Layla have just calmed down a bit?? Alice didn’t want to have to fight fire with fire, but it often came down to doing so when her fellow Slytherin’s would underestimate, intimidate and threaten her or more so, the PEOPLE she loved. Only looking at her for a few moments as her smile fell, she finally talked, “it wasn’t a joke, especially with how much you’re almost-but-not-quite threatening me.” Taking another sip from her tea, she nodded, “nah, they’re calling you much worse, Layla, I just prefer the herd.”

“Oh, alright, no problem Benjy. I’m sorry if I pushed a button or just was overbearing or y’know, anyways!! Er, just make sure you .... don’t forget to go to Pomfrey, for me?? Please??” Quickly, Alice covered her mouth and blushed. “I was supposed to stop talking.”

“I thought it was clever, I’m glad you agree. Not the classiest, but I figured it feigned towards the intended point without being too graphic.”

“Please Remus, clever is the new classy. I don’t know who cares about looks anymore if there’s nothing but an EMPTY tin can where the rain ought to be. “

“Won’t you come with me to sit by the lake? It’s such a beautiful day out, and I refuse to let anyone waste it sitting inside this castle… Pretty please?”

“You only had to ask me once,” Alice smiled, getting up from her pile of books, quickly closing them and putting them away. “Besides, we’ve only got a few more days like this before Scotland decides to FREEZE on us.”

rab looked up from his arithmancy text book, thick brows almost lifting in relief as he snapped it shut. a slight smirk upturned his brims.

         “ ——— nah, can’t say i’ve seen it… don’t look at me like tha–not my fault you can’t keep track of your things. ”

A whine emitted from her throat as she frowned and just decided to plop down next to him. She was e x h a u s t e d from her hunt around the castle, and though he was right about her having trouble keeping track of her things, it didn’t make it any easier to deal with it.

“It’s OBVIOUSLY your fault it’s missing, you’ve had your eye on my heart shaped sunnies for ages, I know it. In my soul.”

“It is, but I can’t think about this right now. I’ve got a twelve inch paper due tomorrow in muggle studies, not to mention the rest of my homework and Quidditch conditioning in the morning.” She groaned, “Plus, I know what I’m doing with my future. Not even Dumbledore is going to change that.”

“He was just trying to gauge where we were, you know?? You’ll be fine then, since you know what you want,” Alice smiled, feeling bad that she’d brought it up. “D’you want me to bring you breakfast after practice tomorrow?? I think Emme and Bas also have conditioning, I believe, so, I’ll be down there anyways.”

“Whatever you have to tell yourself to sleep at night. The real point is, do you need me to get you some salve for it? I think I have some in my trunk.”

“That’d be super kind of you, Winter, please, could you?? You don’t have to but I’d rather not give into the itch and make it worse.”
