Deep In got me as invested in the doc/patient couple as I was with the actor couple. Both as toxic as fuck of course, although Fang Chi and Gao Zhun have the edge. Still, I bloody loved it. AND THE PUBLIC CLAIMING! arghh. So good.

The post-credit stingers all the way through were good (and relevant to the plot so if you missed them go back and watch) and the sudden Madam Qin/Director kiss made me laugh. Did we need the final, final one? Nope but I didn't hate it so it's all good.
Honestly, Japan, South Korea and now China have all been outscoring Thailand for me this year but I am very behind on Thai BL so there's probably some gems I haven't caught yet. Still, China! And with excellent NC scenes. Colour me amazed.
NB the cut to the director popping the tab on his coke can and it exploding and fizzing at the climax (as it were) of one of the NC filming scenes made me HOWL with laughter. Poor boys. But at least he knew enough to clear the set and send someone in to them with wet wipes.

At its heart, The Servant Prince is about two men working out how to be in a relationship, despite having already been in one for 10 years (albeit one of a very different sort). It's soft and sweet and I adore it.

I enjoyed The Prosecutor's Proposal immensely. It might even have snuck in above To My Star and Semantic Error as my favourite KBL. The relationship was Japanese levels of toxic, there were some good NC scenes (from Korea!!!) and there was a proper plot - seriously, it was a proper Kdrama.
Ju Taeseon was a fabulous tsundere seme while Lee Chaeha got bullied by lots of horrible people (including, let's be honest, Taeseon) but managed to be resilient and strong as well as a vulnerable cutie in need of protection. Can Ju Taeseon get the entire Fine Collection dept fired? Pretty please? I mean, he managed to get the uncle investigated and banged up so I'm sure there's something he can do.
BTW "Instead of being happy alone I'd rather be miserable with you." is a TERRIBLE life choice. I loved it.
NB the subs are slightly better on Gaga btw.
The Servant Prince is right up my alley (yes, it's a particularly dingy alley with lots of trash, unsavoury characters and assorted weaponry - what of it?). It's a weird whipping boy/service top with a spoiled brat of a bottom who's nevertheless extremely damaged and quite endearing. By ep. 3 he's coming out of his depression and beginning to get back on his feet only for his absolutely AWFUL father to pop up. What a massive asshole. "doing menial work even a monkey could do"
Then to talk shit about his mother to business acquaintances?
I suspect the second wife and the half brother are behind Naoya's sabotage and I cannot WAIT for Takaaki to destroy them all With prejudice. Arghh.
We had them using their words and a lovely little mutual confession. I mean, they've been communicating since the end of the first ep really which sounds fast in JBL terms but as they've been entwined since high school it's taken at least 8 years to get to this point. Still, good for them. Well done boys.

Ep 1 of the best BL title of the year (possibly ever but knowing Japan something will top (heh) it next year), Are The Sexy Buttocks Not OK? and baby boy basically wants to know what an orgasm from prostate stimulation feels like. Oh I bloody loved Fake Fact Lips - what a fabulous little show, I binged it in a single sitting. JBL is my very favourite flavour of BL and this was such a good one. Didn't clock that Zen was Mr Unlucky until a few eps in, or that Ryo had been in The Journey to Killing You. But awww, the yearning of Ryo, the obliviousness of young Zen and the stubborn determination of his older self (because once that man's decided he's in, he's ALL IN), the stupid, stupid contest that started it - so sweet. I wasn't even really bothered by the 'love triangle' (was this in the manga? I bet it was) because when they confess and get together in ep 5 of 10 you know some asshole's going to try to get in between them.
I liked their quiet moments - walking together to sober Zen up after his night drinking with the secretaries, the gentle lovemaking, the domesticity.
Japan's been good to us this year.

It's been over 4 years since the last HiStory installment and let's face it, the last two were not the best. 4 had the stepbrother trope, which I honestly don't mind except in this instance where the stepbrother is a stalker who rapes his stepbrother who then falls in love with him.
And then 5 was a time travel thing that was a bit of a non event. So the news that they're filming 6 fills me with trepidation.
Here's the info. Looks like it'll be broadcast next year if they're just starting to film which would mark a 10 year anniversary from the first HiStory installment. Cast looks cute but we've seen this premise before.
Here's hoping they regain their form.

Because who knows what China's doing at the moment? Two short years ago this would have definitely ended in murder/torture/mutilation but now? Now they be wilding. Could be anything.
