HOUSE OF THE DRAGON 1.01 | āThe Heirs of the Dragonā
Viserys spoke often of the Valyrian histories. I know them well. When dragons flew to warā¦everything burned. I do not wish to rule over a kingdom of ash and bone.
But the burden is a heavy one. Itās too heavy.

EMMA DāARCY as RHAENYRA TARGARYEN HOUSE OF THE DRAGON | S01E08: The Lord of the Tides
EMMA D'ARCY as RHAENYRA TARGARYEN in HOUSE OF THE DRAGON (2022) Episode 8: āThe Lord of the Tidesā
In 111 AC, a great tourney was held at Kingās Landing on the fifth anniversary of King Viserysās marriage to Queen Alicent. At the opening feast, the queen wore a green gown, whilst Princess Rhaenyra dressed dramatically in Targaryen red and black. Note was taken, and thereafter it became the custom to refer to āgreensā and āblacksā when talking of the queenās party and the party of the princess, respectively. The blacks had greater success in the tourney as Criston, wearing Rhaenyraās favor, unhorsed all of the queenās champions, including two of her cousins and her youngest brother, Ser Gwayne Hightower.

And then Alice is the representation of every woman: a whole set of annotations could be added tracing Alice imagery and Alice imitation in womenās fiction, from Cathleen Schine to Virginia Woolf. (Every man identifies with Hamlet, it has been said, since every man imagines himself a disinherited monarch; every woman identifies with Alice, since every woman sees herself as the sole sane person in a world filled with lunatics who imagine themselves disinherited monarchs.)
