Heyyyyy! Today is my bday. Also the 11 anniversary since my heart attack. Every birthday feels like a renewal of life, an opportunity to be thankful for another year. U Wish 30x40 AEA: How does this new body of work differ from your last cohesive collection of work? Full time artist journal entry. Today has been more a business day. Had a call with a @mastrius.official team même bed about my second coaching group I am leading starting this month. Also revisiting this piece currently on view at @antlerpdx gallery. This was one of my last piece in 2022 where I wanted to explore multiple features being layered on top of another. It was a great experiment and ultimately, I decided to focus 2023 on a more whimsical mood with awkward fashion and a hint of retro. The art journey is never about finding the “perfect” recipe but about following an artist as they evolve and inject some of their current moods into their life markers/ paintings. Full time artist journal entry: well today was a busy. No art was produced at all as I had to prioritize my family today. And it’s okay. Behind the scene, I released my first ever print on canvas, which is 24x36, signed, numbered, and more amazingly I will be hand embellishing each sold edition with mediums & acrylic. All hanging will also be installed already as well. Very excited about this one. It is now live on my online shop for preorder (starting to ship next week) . Full Time Artist Journal Entry. Hello you, it’s been a while since I did this. But it is time to get back at it. What have we done today? Today is a day of pre painting: planning and prepping. I received a round canvas for an upcoming group show, so I will spend part of the day prepping it with 2-3 layers of tinted gesso. I also prepped a sketch for the piece. The drawing is pretty simple but I believe the colour choices and overall mood of the piece will make it as engaging as it lives in my head. This is not my work (it is but it is not). There is an artist name Richard Prince who has been in the news quite a lot with his appropriation art, which he calls « transfiguring art proposition ». The appeal is rooted in controversy and copyright challenges. He called those pieces « paintings » but they are just textured screen grabs. Some of them sell for over 100k and are shown in museums. I dont know how I feel about it, should I feel honored to be part of this pop culture drama? Be grateful for the « exposure »? or pissed about an old white man taking the work of a female artist and shamelessly calling it his on the back of Pop Art conceptualisation. There are a lot of articles about his work, and about how no one wins a lawsuit against him because he’s loaded… from all the art sales. The irony. So the question is, and simultaneously what the interest is, should the theft victim feel honored to have been taken from (and be part of the club that features numerous celebrities)? And does our discomfort just feed his agenda? The more we talk about it, the more famous he is… Honestly, where I currently stands is, I would have felt less violated if he would have asked for consent, I probably would have said yes.
