30 - dentist - taken - father - 3 1/2 years in town.
Aexei, or Alex as he prefers, was born in Tula, Russia, where he spent the first six years of his life. His parents, seeking a better future, then moved the family, including Alex's four-year-old sister, to New York. His father, a dentist, had established himself in the United States two years prior and was determined to provide a comfortable life for them. The transition was challenging for Alex, who spoke only Russian and Hebrew and had to learn English in school. Despite the initial struggles and bullying, he found solace in music and sports, particularly basketball and guitar, as long as they didn't interfere with his studies. From a young age, his father had decreed that Alex would follow in his footsteps and become a dentist, so he focused on his education.
Middle school brought new challenges as Alex noticed he was different from his peers. While they began "dating" and showed interest in girls, Alex just wanted friendships. In high school, he did start dating girls, but none of the relationships lasted. In tenth grade, his father introduced him to the daughter of a family friend, a year his junior. Both families were from Russia, but the girl had moved at a young age and didn't have an accent like Alex. His father encouraged them to date to preserve their Russian heritage in America. They complied, and Alex cared for the girl, who became a good friend. They dated on and off throughout high school, and his father's pressure led them to get married the summer after her graduation. After nearly a decade of dating, they were happy enough, with Alex in dental school and his wife pursuing a degree for a work-from-home job. Less than a year into marriage, they had a daughter, followed by a son four years later. Managing school and parenthood was challenging, but they made it work until Alex graduated and joined his father's practice.
However, Alex had begun exploring the feelings he had long suppressed. He started going to bars and clubs, flirting with men, and eventually kissing them. His wife discovered his infidelity after a year, and though she didn't mind his attraction to men, his deception led to divorce. The split was difficult for both families, but Alex convinced his ex-wife to move to New Bellevoux, where he joined a small dental practice. He got an apartment, while she and the kids got a house. She started her desired job, and Alex supported his family while navigating his new life. At the dental office, he met a client with whom he felt an instant connection. Despite the professional boundary, they became friends, then started dating. Alex and his boyfriend have been together almost a year and are considering moving in together. However, co-parenting with his ex-wife and introducing his kids to this new relationship complicates their plans for the future.
