You don’t control the initial conditions—your background, setbacks, timing, or random chance (the “cards”). But you do control interpretation, strategy, and response (how you “play the hand”).

It’s simple phrasing, but it compresses a fairly serious idea: your lifespan is finite, but how you fill it is largely up to you.
