He’d been looking for Breha since he came back. It had taken over a lot of his time, the times that he was not spending with the New Republic. Reading any briefings, searching for any that have come back form Alderaan, interviewing those that they had known when they were both alive. He had thought she would find Leia when she could, but when she hadn’t turned up, the thought had come up that maybe she had stayed gone. He refused to accept it however. It wasn’t something that he talked to anyone about, not even Leia or Padmé, but the research he had been doing on his wife had kept him up at night. It was like it was the only thing he could do for his destroyed world, to find their queen. He hadn’t been able to do anything to help their planet, blamed himself for the rebellion and the eventual loss, but he needed to find Breha.
As much as he was grieving the loss of the planet, if he knew anything about his wife, he knew that she would be devastated and blaming herself. She was their ruler, their monarch, beloved more than any. He didn’t know how to survive without her, in this new life where their whole world was gone, their people dead or scattered due to the empire’s cruelty, and their daughter grown so much more than he remembered her, five years old and sitting on his lap. His latest tip has taken him out of the safety of his office on Chandrilla. It was hard to feel like he belonged there, not when so much had changed and the worry lines on his friends faces had grown ( or some had come back to life. ) His eyes are surveying the busy area before looking down at his pad. The holo was blurry, and he couldn’t tell really that it was Breha, just a small woman. Still, it was the only lead he’d had in the last month. He stood out in a crowd, almost six and a half feet tall, which made looking through the thick masses easier. He stood almost a head taller than many in the market. It was useless though. He’d recognize her anywhere. He put the pad back in the pockets of his travelling cloak, teeth clenched together.
Peace and freedom was always something to celebrate, a thought she reminded herself for the third time since she had arrived on Chandrilla. Breha Organa tried her best to not stand out --- but it had only been a few weeks since she had awoken and found herself in a time and place that did not belong to her. She’d been forced to confront the horrible truths of what had happened to herself, her family... and her home. Truths that had rendered the Queen numb --- unable to find a moment of peace internally since.
Of course, there had been little time to focus on her grief --- as much as it felt like her heart was tearing itself into shreds with each passing seconds. There had been bigger issues with the liberation plans, and that’s what she had needed to focus on. Even without a kingdom --- Breha was still a queen to her core. Duty before thyself. That was the burden she always had to bear; no matter the personal pain it was one she was always willing to do !
Now, however, there wasn’t even that to distract her --- nor could she bring herself in this moment to ruin the festivities for anyone else to discuss Alderaan and where she could find the survivors (and hopefully find out if any of her loved ones had been saved). So, Breha was internally counting minutes until it was reasonable to do so --- and doing her best not to let her sadness show. The Queen’s stature did not waver, to the world she looked as if she was enjoying the festivities respectfully --- her eyes simply scanned the crowd with regal smile. Hoping somewhere in her deepest hearts that she might find a face she recognized...
