A good intention, however...
First of all, I introduce myself with you. I’m Alchemist of Atlas, and through this platform, I’ll offer my opinions about topics that catch my eye. I’ve found myself with a topic that might be very interesting.
Recently, Pope Francis, during its visit on Polandm dedicated a speech to the youth today, where he invited them to leave videogames and get away from the screens to take a more active role in society.
And I quote: “Dear young people, we didn’t come into this work to ‘vegetate’, to take it easy, to make our lives a comfortable sofa to fall asleep on. No, we came for another reason: to leave a mark,” Francisco said in front of a crowd that gathered in Brzegi, a village on the outskirts of Krakow.
The same way, the Pope considered consumism and computers as gateways that separate people, and invited them to become “politicians, thinkers, social activists” to help build a global economy, “inspired by solidarity”.
“The times we live in do not call for young ‘couch potatoes’, but for young people with shoes, or better, boots laced. You want others to decide your future? No! You want to fight for your future? Yes!”
I can understand his words to a degree, and while I the intention is a good one, I can perceive Pope Francis is kinda ignorant regarding some aspects.
It is true there’s videogame addiction, but in the same way, they have also become a big source of income for plenty of professional gamers, so I can certainly mention gamers are not good for nothing lazybums. Professional gamers dedicate their time to improve themselves.
I would instead invite Pope Francis to give a few minutes of his time to watch tournament videos (For example, EVO, CEO, Combo Breaker, etc (I like fighting games, don’t look at me like with disfavor)) where pro gramers are sponsored in the same way athletes are spnsored. Might have hear the term e-sports? I don’t think so.
Wish I could be a pro gamer, but unfortunately, I don’t have the reources and I’m currently unemployed, but that doesn’t mean I’m not productive. I have a degree, but getting a job here is too hard. Like said before, Pope Francis’ intentions are good, but he diesn’t have the bases to support his statement because the pontiff is ignorant about topics he should research a bit more about it.
