I love writing ME3 stuff from James's perspective because early in their run I decided that he fully assumes my Mshep and Kaidan were already dating if not married, and it's such a funny version of things. He's down there on Mars watching Shepard scream bloody murder over Kaidan nearly getting killed like, "Damn. Guess you don't need to pay for a divorce lawyer any more." The Citadel coup is him going "I knew you guys were dysfunctional but this shit just keeps getting worse." They start actually dating and he's just like "They worked it out? Well damn, okay. Really thought the guns would've put a damper on things, but I guess war screws with peoples' standards." At no point does anyone realize what he's thinking or correct him, nor does he mention it to anyone, except maybe for Joker who probably realizes what's happening and keeps the bit going for his own amusement. James fully just accepts that Shepard and Kaidan got married sometime before he met them and kept it quiet. The actual proposal/wedding eventually happens and he finally goes Hey what the Fuck and somehow ends up more confused than ever
bonus if you get wrex killed at any point before the citadel dlc. james will show up in wrex's place and third wheel mshenko THE ENTIRE TIME and bro has to witness them being an old married couple (without actually being married), so the actual proposal is extra extra confusing to him
