Rethinking Our Malls in the time of COVID
Design Thinking and Architectural Illustration CNN Philippines Life
I’m very happy to be writing more long-form again (and illustrating at that)! My rethinking of our malls in the time of COVID is on CNN Philippines Life.
Read the full cover story here.
My think-piece is somewhere in the middle, along with other architects and urban planners!

Something Zero
Branding & Graphic Design September 2018
I worked on the visual branding of a project I’m working on. I’m the type of person who’s extremely sensitive to visuals and so, I could not work unless I’m already comfortable with the colors I’ve set to use throughout the entire project.
I’m at a phase where I’m heavily inspired by dated graphics and design – Bauhaus, Soviet type, and the Memphis Group.
June in Stills
So long overdue. It’s been difficult for me to stop and catch up to document life for the past 5 months. It’s just that I’ve no energy. Zero.
June was pretty cool. Lots of things happened from teaching my first ever class in Escolta, to buying my most expensive purchase so far – a mirrorless camera!
MAKING: slides for my ideation class for Trade School Manila
DRINKING: water water water
WANTING: long skirts and long dresses lately
PLAYING: with the NFC of my small camera for a photography assignment
ENJOYING: our extremely rare family trip to a cute beach resort with colorful cabanas
WAITING: for the graduation ball I’m covering to start
LIKING: monochromatic photos again, after years
WATCHING: my students share their work
HOPING: it doesn’t rain so I can shoot my graduating friends
WEARING: jackets everyday to work
BUYING: a small secondhand camera using my accumulated hard-earned money
GETTING: 2 swimsuits of the same style in yellow and green!!!
DISLIKING: my 8-inch wedge that makes me topple over on the carpet’s wobbly
FEELING: exhausted from daily architecture internship + a photography internship on the side
SNACKING: tripple chocolate cake
WISHING: I someday fulfill my childhood dream to become a teacher
DRAWING: Bea on the hotel notepad for her birthday HAHA

Poblacion Cultural Block: Design Booklet
Architecture, Graphic Design, & Layout May 2018
As a final requirement for one of my classes, we were tasked to design and print out a booklet. I really enjoy presenting data visually!
Poblacion Public Spaces
As part of the developed site, a public block plaza and arcaded walkway was integrated into the built spaces.
May in Stills
Life’s happening and I’m having a hard time to pause and make these little posts. Three months late!
PLAYING: Wordscapes and Chain Reaction with my cousins
ENJOYING: rendering way too many perspectives
LIKING: Bottom of This by Oh, Flamingo! even more when I looped it while working!!! + the new Arctic Monkeys album (particularly One Point Perspective)

Class: Ideation in Graphics & Illustration
Trade School Manila First Coworking Community, Escolta June 30, 2018
I've always had mad respect for teachers. And I've always wanted to be one. ( ⭐childhood dream job⭐ ) How can we work with a prompt or a project brief? The class went through the general process in illustration and any graphics work, from abstraction of concepts to translation & revisions. We talked about how to find the best compromise between what the client/prompt/brief needs and what you can still proudly call your own work. Apart from all of that, a few tips & tricks in actual design work (layout, color, etc.) were shared.
I taught my first ever class at Escolta last Saturday! I was so scared and shy but it's done!!! I appreciate everyone who came by, participated, and brought goods for barter. Thank you @tradeschoolmanila for inviting me and @firstcoworkingmnl for being such a cool space. The idea of bartering for education is really cool too!
They Don't Know–
–is a photoset drawn from the idea that no one else really knows what goes on behind the scenes of anything – of anyone's life. Don’t ever ever belittle someone else’s work and struggle – because we don’t know.

Any Name’s Okay – Clouds
Cover Art May 2018
Their music is now on Spotify! My art, too, is on now Spotify!!! I really appreciate the band for supporting local art. You can stream their single here.
Process
I’d like to share my process in coming up with the design. I was approached by the band with 2 initial ideas: (1) a pattern of clouds, and (2) two persons on top of a cloud. They also told me that the song was about someone not liking you back. I suggested to combine the 2 initial ideas and add a sense of perspective to it so that it’s not too flat.
I drew initial sketches and cloud studies on paper. I first explored it with line art, then later decided that it’s much better without it. Several color schemes were also tried out before we all settled into the most fitting one.
I also extracted some elements from the final design as backgrounds for the release teaser.

Pinakamamahal kong SC
Illustration March 2018
It’s been over 2 months but I still can’t believe what happened. SC was more than just an everyday stop for me. It was also my architectural design plate in 3rd year, wherein we re-designed the entire complex. We also did an audit and evaluation of the building’s compliance to the building code for Arch 57. It was also where all my art merch was born.

I wanted to make art but I needed progress in my architectural design class, so I drew the approach to my project’s site. This was the outcome of it.
