Something Zero

Branding & Graphic Design September 2018

I worked on the visual branding of a project I’m working on. I’m the type of person who’s extremely sensitive to visuals and so, I could not work unless I’m already comfortable with the colors I’ve set to use throughout the entire project.

So long overdue. It’s been difficult for me to stop and catch up to document life for the past 5 months. It’s just that I’ve no energy. Zero.

June was pretty cool. Lots of things happened from teaching my first ever class in Escolta, to buying my most expensive purchase so far – a mirrorless camera!

MAKING: slides for my ideation class for Trade School Manila 

DRINKING: water water water

WANTING: long skirts and long dresses lately

PLAYING: with the NFC of my small camera for a photography assignment

ENJOYING: our extremely rare family trip to a cute beach resort with colorful cabanas

WAITING: for the graduation ball I’m covering to start

LIKING: monochromatic photos again, after years

WATCHING: my students share their work

HOPING: it doesn’t rain so I can shoot my graduating friends

WEARING: jackets everyday to work

BUYING: a small secondhand camera using my accumulated hard-earned money

GETTING: 2 swimsuits of the same style in yellow and green!!!

DISLIKING: my 8-inch wedge that makes me topple over on the carpet’s wobbly 

FEELING: exhausted from daily architecture internship + a photography internship on the side

SNACKING: tripple chocolate cake

WISHING: I someday fulfill my childhood dream to become a teacher

WISHING: I get exempted from out Utilities & Costing finals (I did get exempted!!!)

Class: Ideation in Graphics & Illustration

Trade School Manila First Coworking Community, Escolta June 30, 2018

I've always had mad respect for teachers. And I've always wanted to be one. ( ⭐childhood dream job⭐ ) How can we work with a prompt or a project brief? The class went through the general process in illustration and any graphics work, from abstraction of concepts to translation & revisions. We talked about how to find the best compromise between what the client/prompt/brief needs and what you can still proudly call your own work. Apart from all of that, a few tips & tricks in actual design work (layout, color, etc.) were shared.

They Don't Know–

–is a photoset drawn from the idea that no one else really knows what goes on behind the scenes of anything – of anyone's life. Don’t ever ever belittle someone else’s work and struggle – because we don’t know.

Process

I’d like to share my process in coming up with the design. I was approached by the band with 2 initial ideas: (1) a pattern of clouds, and (2) two persons on top of a cloud. They also told me that the song was about someone not liking you back. I suggested to combine the 2 initial ideas and add a sense of perspective to it so that it’s not too flat.

I drew initial sketches and cloud studies on paper. I first explored it with line art, then later decided that it’s much better without it. Several color schemes were also tried out before we all settled into the most fitting one.

April means (1) heat hell and (2) ageing another year. I spent my birthday finishing a submittal for printing and simply attending class.
