I wish more people...cis and trans...understood that transitioning and passing is just not possible for a lot of us and never will be. I’m so tired of the trans narrative being focused on this supposedly universal experience.

I’m extremely disabled. I will probably never be able to transition in any capacity. I am dependent on my bigoted family and on a bigoted medical system to survive. HRT could hurt my body very badly and I cannot bind because of chronic chest pain. I cannot have top surgery for those same reasons.

There’s so much more to being a man, woman, non-binary than how you can present yourself. And a lot of us are trying desperately to come to terms with that. With the idea of being closeted forever or just straight up trying to navigate our own identies among other trans people more privileged than us.

On this day, 13 January 1943 19-year-old Ukrainian anti-Nazi resistance fighter Juliana Matveevna Gromova was executed by German forces. Arrested 3 days before, she endured brutal torture as the Nazis tried to force her to disclose the names of her comrades. They beat her, whipped her with metal, burned her with hot irons, flayed and mutilated her, tore out her hair and rubbed salt in her wounds but she refused to betray any of her comrades. After she was turned down for a job because she came on “too strong for a woman,” she began a campaign that led to the landmark legislation banning sex discrimination in federally funded educational institutions.

In 1969, her newly earned doctorate in hand, Bernice Sandler was hoping to land one of seven open teaching positions in her department at the University of Maryland. When she learned she had been considered for none of them, she asked a male colleague about the oversight. “Let’s face it,” was his reply. “You come on too strong for a woman.”

When she applied for another academic position, the hiring researcher remarked that he didn’t hire women because they too often stayed home with sick children. Later, an employment agency reviewed her résumé and dismissed her as “just a housewife who went back to school.”

The singer volunteered at Melbourne's Foodbank to package food hampers for those affected by the country's worst fire crisis.

“Musician Lizzo has taken a break from her gigs in Australia to lend a helping hand as the country’s worst bushfire crisis continues.

The 31-year-old “Good As Hell” hitmaker spent time volunteering at Melbourne’s Foodbank on Wednesday, helping package food hampers for those who’ve been affected by the devastating fires.

The organization has set up a page on its website where Lizzo fans can learn how to make a difference this bushfire season.

The 2019/2020 bushfire season death toll stands at 25, 10.3 million hectares of land has been burnt, 1 billion animals are feared to have perished, thousands of people have been evacuated from holiday beaches and more than 1,900 homes have been destroyed.”
