I have yet to see a post about plastic in fashion, so here’s one. The majority of clothing produced by fast fashion brands are actually entirely made from plastic. We buy too much without thinking of the wider ethical and environmental effect. Nylon, polyester, sequins, glitter and faux fur are the biggest problems. Everybody worries about “outfit repeating” on nights out and we don’t intend the next time for the dress to see daylight to be when it is heading to landfill but this is often how it goes. Instead of letting our clothes go to waste we should take more advantage of charity shops and reselling (Depop, eBay etc). I find people often look down on those buying/selling from these places but you’re either helping a charity/being entrepreneurial or recycling Make money. Save money. Save the world 🌍 Also, it’s so easy to repair and give clothes new life, it just takes a bit of time and effort - I know it is easy for me to say and that I am bias but it is fun. Pet peeve: no one wants to buy real fur but faux fur is plastic 🤷🏼‍♀️ the real answer is no fur!!.. It is horrendously bad for the environment as pressure to reduce cost and time to get a product to shop floor means that environmental corners are often just ignored or even cut. • The toxic chemicals used in textile dyeing is the second largestpolluter of clean water globally, after agriculture. • Polyester is the most popular fibre used for fashion.
