Since then, it had been like no time had passed at all. Of course they had both changed, but at the core - Koujaku had still been the boy Aoba had known. He’d been pretty tight-lipped about his time spent on the mainland, but Aoba hadn’t pried. The past was in the past and it wasn’t as though Aoba himself was very keen on going into much detail about what what he’d been up to in the years Koujaku had been gone for. The things he could remember, anyway. 

It had been a slow day at the junk shop when Koujaku came by. Haga-san had left the shop to him and told him to close up when he felt like it if things didn’t pick up, so Koujaku showing up was a welcome distraction from the boredom.
