based off this tweet
if I see one more "why age verification is bad" post that doesn't even bother to mention that locking young people out of huge sections of the public sphere - literally the stated goal and primary impact of this shit - is wrong in and of itself I will simply start hitting people with bricks
yes yes biometric data privacy blah blah adults can hypothetically by harmed by this too. what about the immediate and deliberate and not at all hypothetical harm to youth. why are you acting like a potential data leak about what your face looks like, which if it ever happened would at least be generally recognised as a problem, is a more serious issue than cutting millions of people off from information and community and public expression which is happening right now in the open with large scale support
it's got the stench of fucking "banned books week" on it. thousands of adults congratulating themselves for reading books literally no one is trying to stop them from reading while doing nothing to improve access for the young people who are the ones actually having those books made off-limits to them.
If the only thing that has kept you going was outliving Mitch McConnell, imma need yall to pick a new person to outlive and fast. Your mission is not over.
when i play among us in public games iâm usually a pink astronaut in a pirate hat named hamlet and i know that lots of kids and teens playing with me havenât heard of or read hamlet yet, so i like to imagine that months or years in the future when they do read hamlet they just picture the titular character like
this is how act one scene four goes
i got fucking recognised

More game devs need to understand the following concepts:
There is a finite amount of memory on any given device.
No matter how good your game is, players will want memory for other things on their devices.
Not everyone has a stable internet connection so making single player games needing an internet connection is not good.
4. The price of memory has more than quadrupled in the past six months
Turns out the horsemen of the Apocalypse now prefer to go by Shareholder Profit, Private Equity, Corporate Personhood, and Workforce Optimization.
Shareholder Profit: War (the casus belli for attacks on workers' rights)
Private Equity: Pestilence (they are parasites that voraciously strip the value out of a healthy business until it withers and dies)
Workforce Optimization: Famine (cutting hours and employees until the business is starved of staff, barely functioning)
Corporate Personhood: Death (a hollow, shambling mockery of a human with rights and needs)
Yeah I can work with that.
EVERYONE STOP TELLING ME HOW OLD YOU WERE IN 2008 I DONT WANNA HEAR THAT SHIT
SOME OF YOU SHOULD BE AT THE OPRHANGE
preschool. I meant preschool.
"you only like her because shes a woman" yup "you let female characters get away with too much" yes "if a man did this you would hate him for it" indeed
Important research for a story I'm writing! Not real life, never real life.
You are transported back in time and into the body of a young noblewoman in the 1400s. Your parents have married you off to an awful, abusive, rapist husband whom literally no one else would marry despite him being very high nobility because he's that terrible. You successfully produce a baby boy and then plan to murder this man for the good of everyone and yourself. Here is the question: do you think you could murder him in a way that is undetectable to the historical people around you? Note: they aren't stupid, you are the prime suspect as the battered wife AND you can't just say poison. Where are you going to buy poison? Do you know anything about poison actually? NO GOOGLING! You were sent back without a plan!
Do you think you could murder someone in the 1400s and get away with it with your modern know-how?
Yes, I totally have a plan (tell me for research purposes)
No, I realize that I'm very uninformed about murder
I have some ideas but I'm not sure they would work
Edit: my notes are full of murder. I love you all
Edit: to clarify about the poison, you can use poison if you actually know how to identify it, I'm saying you can't just go "Poison!" with no knowledge about poison. Buying it probably means they know that poison and you're caught. Your personal knowledge when you read this post is all you have.
Another point of clarity: You went through all that trouble to have a baby without modern medicine so you could get the sweet house after your husband died. That's why you can't be caught. No disappearing.
Edit again: Air embolisms are going on a high shelf because the syringe won't be invented for 350 years. Prove to me that you could make one from scratch, lol
I promise to stop making edits (lol): I left the country vague because I just wanted to see ideas for modern vs. past. Whatever place you are most knowledgeable about

âit failed because it got too wokeâ ITâS DOCTOR WHO, WOKE CAME FREE WITH YOUR FUCKING DOCTOR WHO???
Love when you're reading a fanfic or web serial and it's great and you want more like it but you've run out of stuff by that author, but then you see in the author's note "I've been reading X and it's really fantastic" and you're like "great! More stuff to red!" and check it out and it turns out that this author you love has absolutely dogshit taste.
My theory as to why this happens btw is that writers see more beauty in what they cannot write than in what they can. Beginners will recommend stuff similar to what they're writing because that's what's inspiring them to start, but when people have their feet wet and know what they're doing then they're less likely to be fascinated by things similar to their own work unless the author they're reading is markedly and obviously more skilled at what they're trying to do. (The exception is if it's an author they got into before they started writing it, and nostalgia is involved.) Everyone who isn't just beginning thinks that the style of writing they do is trite and unremarkable, and is unlikely to be amazed enough by writers similar to them to recommend it to their readers, even though their readers obviously love writers similar to them (otherwise why are they here). So you read stuff you love by some writer and they're like "I am so obsessed with X!" and X is some nonsense slop you couldn't be less interested in because the stuff you are interested in is the stuff that the recommender, by definition, finds routine and not worth appreciating.
That's what I reckon, anyway.
#i am in the process of having the reverse happen to me#where im realizing an author i like maybe isnt as MatureTM as i thought they were originally#and im sitting here now like 'oh no am i the author op is talking about'
Listen, when I was a teenager I recommended Sword of Truth to multiple people.
Can't Catch the Rabbit
Anyway, I don't remember much of what I wanted to say as far as a review, but I did save a bunch of screen shots of my rants in my friend's discord, so here's a good summary of my feelings at the time:
And the episode reinforcing my hatred of the way this show and many others handle time travel:
Oh, and obviously:
Day 2 in the Middle School Time Loop: you remember that last time, everyone ignored you at recess because they were talking about a TV show that you hadnât watched. This time, you lie and say youâve seen it. They ask you who your favorite character is, and you donât know any of the characters, and so youâre tongue-tied. They think youâre weirder than ever, or maybe a liar, which is worse (and true).
Day 3 in the Middle School Time Loop: you tell your parents that you feel ill. They let you stay home while theyâre at work. You spend the whole day watching past episodes of the TV Show.
Day 4 in the Middle School Time Loop: Recess again. The same person asks you who your favorite character is. This time, you're ready. You eagerly tell them, and supplement your reasons for liking them with solid evidence from all 4 seasons of the show. But! Tough luck: youâre now too invested. The atmosphere turns uncomfortable. They go back to ignoring you like they did on the Day 1 that you didnât know was Day 1.
Day 5 in the Middle School Time Loop:
