( plz like this if i can invade your IM with plot ideas. im flipping excited to work on alana’s story but i need friends to write with! anyone want to meet this lil’ sea witch? i’m looking for friends, mentors, apprentices, characters who want a spell from her, enemies, etc. i’m down for all of it! )

pre-movie verse | ages 16-20. this verse takes place before ariel leaves for the surface world & before alana discovers ursula’s lair. she has realized her magical prowess at this point, but has kept it a secret from her family.

❝ You were never meant for this world of glimmer & gold. Far away, a longing mother’s cry cannot reach your waterlogged ears. You didn’t know any better & wouldn’t for several more years. Graceful, polite, & poised, you silently followed the plan your father ( the sea king- TRITON ) laid out well before your birth. However, the UNKNOWN who missed cradling you had other ideas. Only you had inherited this mysterious & strong affinity for M A G I C. It was your secret, one you kept your mouth shut clam-tight about... especially around your sisters. Always remember: Loose lips sink ships. ❞

♆ ( verse; sighs of saltwater spray )  

side verse | ages 21-22. ariel is gone, attina is readying herself for coronation, & alana is dreading her own departure to the black sea. she had been practicing her craft in ursula’s abandoned lair, which she would soon be forced to leave behind.

❝ Wading in the waiting line for the throne seemed pointless to you. Second-born or not, Atlantica's future Q U E E N wasn’t going anywhere & neither was the powerful TRIDENT of Poseidon. As tempting as it gleamed, you had your own kingdom to worry about. Would you be forced to marry? Would the merpeople be different there? What was the castle like? Oh, & not to mention... how much longer could you keep up this charade before SHE finally discovers where you’ve been sneaking off to? ❞

♆ ( verse; of marble & fishbone ) 

main verse | age 23+, residing within the kingdom of marmara, alana presides over a small populace of merpeople. in the deep lairs of her castle, she has a ‘pit’ from which she raises merfolk, humans, & ancient creatures from the dead sea layer beneath her kingdom. she grants them a new life of immortality, but for a price: they are indebted to her forever. in her later years, she begins to secretly build an undead army. her desire for the trident has grown & so has her plan to overthrow attina.

No matter what she said, QUEEN ATHENA was still your mother. Yes, your story may have began with a LIE, but you won’t let your father dictate your D E S T I N Y. ♆ ( verse; arose from seafoam ) 

alternate verse | age 22+, instead of misusing her black sea magic to attack atlantica, alana takes on a human form to set off on land in search of a new start. she still practices witchcraft & must re-hydrate often, but tries to pass as a normal human girl. she’s also abandoned her duties to the kingdom of marmara.

Disclaimer: Let me just start off by saying I hate King Triton. Sorry, not sorry. He terrified me as a kid. Like many little girls, I related with Ariel... so seeing him barge into her private space, yelling at her, & destroying her precious collection like that was scarring. I was so young when I saw that. Then I started to see my own parents behave that way as I got older & just... NO. Not okay. On top of that, he had his musical composer ( a CRAB you’d never suspect ) spying on his youngest daughter like the controlling asshole creep he is. He also banned music in Atlantica just because his late wife loved music??? Like...? WHAT??? Not to mention, he tried to marry Ariel off to some dickwad of a merman in the animated series, but failed. I don’t blame Ariel for wanting to put as much distance between herself & her father after all of that. Anyway, my backstory for Alana doesn’t exactly shine a good light on him, just as a head’s up. It’s just a headcanon though. It’s okay if you still like him, I get it. He did soften up after his granddaughter was born. Personally, I can’t help but feel like the reason is due to him realizing the error of his ways. He keeps pushing his daughters away, so maybe that’s why he’s cooled down by the time of the sequel. I d k.

ADDITIONALLY, I find it very hard to believe these girls all came from Queen Athena. Sure, we could just say they’re ~*~*~magical mermaids~*~*~ with active genes for black, brown, dark brown, sandy blonde, platinum blonde, ginger, & bright ass red hair... but I don’t buy it. Attina is the only one who looks anything like Queen Athena. I’d say Ariel too, but like, barely??? They have the same bangs & that’s about it. So I’m going with my theory that there were seven different moms.

   He was T R I T O N- Son of Poseidon, King of the Merfolk & the Seven Seas. With powerful trident in hand, he was considered the RULER of his species. Spreading his seed far across the tide, he hoped to produce future kings to rule their people in his stead. For seven years, the merman tried desperately. Seven different mothers, seven different opportunities for greatness. However, whenever he came to collect, he was only met with disappointment. Daughter after daughter after daughter... he was never blessed with a BABY BOY. It was almost as if he’d been cursed.
