As a woman of color you have to accept that not only are you never going to get handouts, you’re also going to have to work twice as hard to prove yourself against your contemporaries (and thrice as hard against ur white male counterparts, let’s be so honest). Racism & sexism still very much exist, because high impact careers (or any avenue, really) are still very much led by old white men. It’s true. But achievement by achievement you will gain confidence in ur abilities, and pride in ur resilience. You will grow less bitter of the fact that you have to put so much work in, because once you make it you’ll know you earned it & it will feel amazing. You’ll have gained many invaluable, insurmountable skills along the way. Skills that can’t be replicated by those who didn’t go through what u did. And u will not be alone in working to make it happen for u.

Whatever I do next I know my top two goals are 1) to make a change in things that matter to me and 2) to gain unadulterated freedom to go wherever I want and do whatever I want and have so much fun in my one wild and precious life. Like that’s what it’s all about for me
