Operation: Carrot Pen Rescue?
Any headcanon or even fanfic to share on how the heck Nick recovered, let alone (had) reassembled, let alone got fully operational again our favorite pen? Were all the pieces just still sitting at the bottom of the mountain? Had ZPD collected the pieces, making Nick go through some bureaucracy, perhaps including some familiar faces, or even trickery, to recover the pieces? Did he or Finnick "know a guy" who restored it? What went through Nick's mind through this process? How worried was he about whether he could recover the pen in any way? We know the restored pen can record anew, but did all the earlier recorded bits from before The Fall--presumably, minus the one Judy used to blackmail Nick--survive?
And now, I'm wondering: How did Judy get the pen back from the ZPD earlier, as a gift to Nick--chip and all, after it was presented as evidence against Bellwether in court? We know from The Argument in Z2 that the pen still had Z1’s "dumb bunny" on it, which came before Bellwether's recorded confession. And, no, while I can speculate and interpolate like mad, I don't write fics. :-)
