Fukaura is a pretty small town, so in terms of things to see there’s not much. But there is this dog called Wasau - he’s a big deal apparently? They made a film about him or something? … Anyways, he’s very fluffy and I bought a cute little phone dongle of him because I’m in Japan and I need to buy unnecessary adorable things!

Some green tea we had at Juniko Lake - not gonna lie, it’s fairly rank.
You suck on the little sweet thingy (basically a sugar cube) whilst you drink the tea, which is a sort of bitter froth - it’s… Yeah, not for me unfortunately…
Ellen and I went to an arcade in Hirosaki, and there was this one “game” which was essentially a photobooth.
You have to follow the poses, it then photoshops your face to make you look like an anime character and then you doodle all over it!! Look how kawaii (cute) we look!!
Pretty cute, if a little weird (and I love how the Japanese version of our names is “Eren” and “Ru-Shi” !!)

Hanoi
I feel so ill! Pt. I
The first thing my cousin did upon arriving in Hanoi at 05:00 was go for coffee, a lot of milky coffee.
While at the time this was nice, but when you’ve been spending 31+ hours on a train, most likely contracting a mild stomach bug, and you’re fairly sure you’re a bit lactose intolerant this doesn’t really make your gut feel so great.
Then adding in 35c heat, you really don’t feel so great. Unfortunately when you can’t get into your hotel till 12:00pm, and have 6 hours to kill all you can do it wonder round the city trying to make the most of your 2 day trip, it kinda makes you feel eeeeven shittier.
Suffice to say I spent over 8 hours in the hotel feeling like death.
Yayyyyyyyy. Holidayyyyyy. -_-
Hanoi is a lovely city to just get lost in. Well it would be if it weren't so FUCKING HOT! Cue heat stroke in 3, 2...

The train from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi
It took 31 hours. I’m not sure you realise how fucking long 31 hours is, but it’s a long time. Having said that it was definitely worth it. The views alone were amazing, getting to see the vastly different scenery in Vietnam was incredible; from lush rainforests to vast beaches and small towns beside the rail way - it was a like a cliff notes for the country.
The journey itself, like I said, was long. Very long. And this isn’t like getting the Eurostar. Heeeeelll no! The train rocks and squeaks like its about to break apart underneath you - fortunately it didn’t, but it was still pretty anxiety inducing!
The train was “technically” air conditioned, but it does pick and chose when to bring the temperature below 30c - so you do every so often feel like a piece of steamed broccoli…
The carriage itself as pretty nice, comfy enough beds, although the sheets were pretty determined to not stay on! And by the 24th hour the turbulence of the train went from a nice rocking you to sleep motion to feeling like you were in a salt shaker being held by an aggravated burly Glaswegian with high cholesterol. I think I actually fell out of the bunk at one point... The main thing me and Miranda were worried about was getting robbed - you hear horror stories of people having all their valuables nicked mid journey; but fortunately for us we were sharing a room with a doting father and his two young daughters and figured since he was watching the cabin like a hawk for them: our bags were pretty safe. Having said that, while they were adorable, the constant need to say "HELLOOO!!" Every twenty seconds got a bit annoying. Just a tad ya know? Overall I'm really glad i did it. Am I in a hurry to be on a train for a day and a half again? I think I'll fly out to Hanoi next time thanks.

Views from the train Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi
Daily monsoon in HCM. Standard.
A night out in Ho Chi Minh: Saw this adorable little dog at the restaurant, and started missing my own little scruffs. I named her Blanche, don't care what her real name is, that's what I'm calling her. We went to the Go2 bar, and drank a lot of Long Island ice tea (I am a much better drinker than my cousin it turns out). Met an adorable little street kid who conned us into buying bangles we didn't really want. He was pretty taken with Miranda, and wrote "I'm sexy" on her hand... Met our new mate Laura who's awesome, hung out with more adorable street kids and kept drinking till the sun came up. As you do.
I always wanted some ostrich / crocodile leather goods...
Cafe sur da - Vietnamese iced coffee. Vietnamese coffee is pretty strong, but it’s served with condensed milk - it’s basically a frappucino.
not gonna lie in 30 degree heat this thing is the bomb!
