Anybody who says cats only play along with human nonsense in order to obtain food has never seen a hungry cat completely ignore a full bowl of food in favour of giving you shit because you did not correctly perform the Dinner Ritual.

Cats do not "tolerate" nonsense. Cats have a minimum level of nonsense they are prepared to accept, and if such nonsense is not forthcoming, they will demand additional nonsense to make up for it.

more stories where someone falls in love and understands that this means they will be changed and made more vulnerable by it, compelled to do irrational things in the name of it, and be willing to die for it, and starts lashing out and stress vomiting about it
