Mrs. Valentine has officially run out of crayons, patience, and polite ways to say this.
WHITE CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM DOES NOT BELONG IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
And before somebody throws a Hobby Lobby cross at the comment section and screams, “THEY’RE TRYING TO TAKE GOD OUT OF SCHOOLS…”
Apparently we need to review the Oklahoma Constitution.
Oklahoma’s Constitution says our public school system shall be open to ALL children and “FREE FROM SECTARIAN CONTROL.”
That’s not Sandra’s interpretation.
That’s the Oklahoma Constitution.
ARTICLE 2, SECTION 5 goes even further.
“No public money or property shall EVER be appropriated, applied, donated, or used, directly or indirectly” for the use, benefit, or support of a sect, church, denomination, or system of religion.
Did everybody catch the words NO, EVER, and ANY?
Because the Oklahoma Supreme Court sure did.
In 2024, the Oklahoma Supreme Court blocked the St. Isidore religious public charter school and specifically pointed to Article 2, Section 5.
The Court said those words demonstrate the “broad and expansive reach” of Oklahoma’s constitutional prohibition.
Then the case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court.
And in May 2025, SCOTUS split 4-4.
You know what that meant?
The Oklahoma Supreme Court’s decision STAYED IN PLACE.
The taxpayer-funded religious public charter school remained blocked.
Now let’s talk about the Ryan Walters era.
Remember when Ryan Walters directed Oklahoma public schools to incorporate the Bible into classroom instruction?
Remember the push to spend taxpayer money on Bibles?
Remember the Bible specifications that somehow became a national punchline?
Remember when public education leadership in Oklahoma started sounding less like an education agency and more like the booking department for a Christian nationalist podcast?
And here we are AGAIN! Pushing one religious view as a campaign slogan.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma has children who need reading and math tutors, not Sunday school pushers Monday-Friday.
Teachers are buying supplies with their own money while we have Bibles sitting in a basement at OSDE worth THOUSANDS of dollars.
Support professionals are begging for a living wage while MILLIONS is spent in Dark Money to push a religious agenda with Oklahoma signing its name on the dotted line.
Rural schools are fighting to keep their doors open while church doors pop open endorsing candidates from the pulpit.
Special education departments are stretched thinner than the cheap laminating sheets I refuse to buy while Made in China American flags wave on the backs of American labeled trucks and cars.
And THIS is where we’re spending candidate energy on?
A government-created daily religious period?
And here’s the part that sends me over the edge.
The same people who have spent YEARS screaming about “indoctrination” apparently only object to indoctrination when they aren’t holding the lesson plan.
Because let’s be very clear.
A Christian student already has religious freedom in an Oklahoma public school.
They can read their Bible.
They can discuss their faith.
They can form religious student groups under applicable law.
They do not have to leave Jesus at the front door next to the visitor badge machine.
Religious freedom already exists.
What white Christian nationalism wants is not religious freedom.
It wants GOVERNMENT PREFERENCE.
It wants the state to validate one religious worldview.
It wants public institutions to reflect one version of Christianity.
And it wants everybody else to smile politely while their tax dollars help build it.
And before someone calls me anti-Christian,
Stop treating poverty like a character flaw.
Whew. We may need an entire separate post.
The neighbor with the political sign that makes your eye twitch every time you drive past it.
Funny how some folks want the Ten Commandments on the classroom wall but start buffering when Jesus gets to loving people they don’t like.
Here’s my line in the Oklahoma red dirt:
Your child can already bring their Bible to school.
Your child can already pray.
Your child can absolutely love Jesus.
Your child can talk about their faith.
And I will defend their right to do it.
But you do NOT get to use the Oklahoma Legislature, the State Department of Education, taxpayer dollars, or my child’s public school classroom to establish YOUR Christianity as the government’s preferred setting.
Because the Oklahoma Constitution says our public schools are to be FREE FROM SECTARIAN CONTROL.
Not “free unless Ryan Walters 2.0 has a press conference or a church meeting.”
Not “free unless a legislator needs campaign content.”
Not “free unless the majority religion really, really wants an exception.”
I didn’t write the Constitution.
Public schools belong to the public.
White Christian nationalism can take its political agenda, its government mandates, and its manufactured culture wars and get the heck out of my child’s and grandchildren’s public schools.
I don’t recruit for your political kingdom and neither do Public School Teachers. That’s not in their contracts.
And I swear on my industrial strength laminator,
in 72-point primary font so we can all sound it out together.
PUBLIC schools are for the PUBLIC.
